: Assam Police have arrested three individuals from different districts for allegedly supporting the lynching of a Hindu man in Bangladesh through social media posts.
The arrests were made in Kamrup, Sribhumi (Hailakandi) and Gauripur in Dhubri district amid widespread protests across Assam over the incident and concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
In Kamrup, police arrested Mohammad Shaif Akhtar Ali of Rangia for allegedly sharing and endorsing a video of the lynching on Facebook and Instagram. The action followed a complaint filed by Hindu organisations.
In Gauripur, Babul Hussain of Baniyamari Sixth Block village was taken into custody for allegedly circulating inflammatory content supporting extremist violence in Bangladesh. Police are probing possible links to organised networks.
In Sribhumi district, Izazur Rahman Laskar (19) was arrested for allegedly posting an inflammatory video on Instagram justifying the killing on communal grounds. He has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Meanwhile, protests against the lynching continued across Assam, with demonstrations reported from Tezpur, Sonitpur, Bijni, Jagiroad, Hojai, Lahorighat, Margherita, Hailakandi and Nalbari, demanding firm action from authorities.
