The Tripura Government on Thursday announced the setting up of a Drone Centre at the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) to train students in Drone Technology.

The announcement was made in the proposed Budget for 2022-23 tabled by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Jishnu Devvarma.

He presented a Rs 26,892.67-crore tax-free Budget that has seen an increase of over Rs 4,000 crore over last fiscal's Budget estimates.

Tripura is the second state after Arunachal Pradesh trying to cash in on the opportunities being provided by the fast-emerging Drone sector.

Jishnu Devvarma, presenting the last full Budget of the BJP-led state Government before the Assembly Polls early next year, said: "I have allocated Rs 5 crore for setting up of a Drone Club/Centre in Tripura Institute of Technology Narsingarh to give college students an opportunity to learn, research and train on Drone Technology, which is emerging at a fast pace."

Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles have immense utility in the northeast because of its difficult hilly and mountainous terrains and road connectivity issues.

Drones were used in the recent past to deliver medicines in Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

A senior Tripura education department official said the drone centre to be set up at TIT at Narsingarh, about 12km from capital city Agartala, will "hopefully" start functioning by next fiscal.

"Planning for the centre is at a very preliminary stage. We will be inviting experts to help us set up the centre, which will teach students about Drone Technology and the use of Drones for the benefit of the society at large, especially in the Agriculture sector and during natural disasters. This sector has huge job opportunities. It has opened up new career avenues,” the official said.

Experts believe that Drone operators, Drone Engineers and Drone Analysts will be in high demand in the near future in sectors such as Agriculture, Health, Real Estate, Environment, Revenue, Entertainment, Transport, Wildlife, Tourism and even for Law Enforcement.

The Tripura administration imposed restrictions under Section 144 CrPC (Criminal Procedure Code) in some parts of Agartala on Saturday night following a clash occurred between ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress activists during a joining programme of the latter at chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb's Assembly constituency, Banamalipur.

A local party office of the BJP was moderately damaged in the clash. Former BJP Minister and legislator Sudip Roy Barman, who recently joined the Congress, has sustained minor injuries during the clashes. No report of injury was made available from any party.

A senior police official said, "We have started our investigation to find out how the clashes began and the persons responsible for this. We have not received any complaints so far. Security personnel have been deployed throughout the night to avoid any untoward incident. If anyone is found involved in the incident, action will be taken against them."

Later, the state administration imposed restrictions at some places of Agartala that prohibited assembly of five or more people in these areas.

The restrictions were imposed from 10:30 PM till 5 AM.

"...it is apprehended that there is every possibility of further law and order issues at night and the additional superintendent of police (Urban), West Tripura, Camp at SDPO Office (Sadar) has requested to promulgate prohibitory orders to maintain law and order... I am satisfied that there is urgent need of issue of Prohibitory Order to maintain public tranquility otherwise there may be deterioration of Law & Order", the order reads.

BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharya said, "Our mandal office came under attack. Many of our activists were taken to hospital. We are not very clear how many of our activists were injured. The incident happened due to internal feud within Congress and they blamed us for the attack. Their allegation is baseless."

Sudip Roy Barman later accused the Police of inaction.

Both the political parties organised protest rallies in the late evening following the clashes and demanded action against the incident.

The Tripura Government would soon launch 'Tripura Pineapple and Jackfruit Mission' (TPJM) to promote the production and value addition of the two horticulture crops that grow abundantly in the state, an official said in Agartala.

Initially, the TPJM will be for five years starting from 1 April, 2022, with a budgetary outlay of Rs 153 crore.

Of the total budgetary allocation, the state Government will pump Rs 10 crore while the remaining fund will be arranged from various channels - North Eastern Council (NEC), DoNER, Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), Central Special Assistance and World Bank.

This is for the first time, the state Government has chalked out a holistic approach for promoting Pineapple and Jackfruit after Tripura Bamboo Mission (TBM).

The Industries and Commerce Department has been made the Nodal Department to implement the TPJM but there will be a project monitoring committee headed by the Chief Secretary.

The state Government wants to increase the production of both Pineapple and Jackfruit in a big way. The state has already started exporting Pineapple and Jackfruit to European countries like UK and Germany apart from neighbouring Bangladesh.

As of now, 8,800 acres of land are covered with Pineapple cultivation and 8,929 hectares are used for Jackfruit cultivation.

The Government wants to increase the production of both the crops and value addition to the crops. Side by side, we have to build cold storage and marketing linkage to ensure better return , said Industries and Commerce Secretary PK Goyal on Wednesday.

Right now, we don't know the export demand of the two horticulture crops. Once the mission is launched, there will be deliberations on the issue and accordingly the target will be fixed. We want value addition from collection to packaging and marketing linkage , he said.

Goyal further said the state Cabinet in its last meeting held Tuesday has cleared the proposal for TPJM that will be officially launched on 1 April. If the mission appears successful, its tenure could be extended for the greater interest of the state , he added. | Bengal Newz Business Via. The Bengal Newz

| Via. Voting for 222 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and other municipal bodies along with six Nagar Panchayats in Tripura began at 7 am today amid tight security arrangements.

The Election Commission has set up more than 700 polling stations across the state for smooth elections.

There are a total of 785 candidates in the fray, including those from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition parties such as the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), and CPI(M).

There are also reports that the CPI(M) may move to the Supreme Court over allegations of intimidation of its workers where they are being stopped from exercising their franchise.

The polling stations have been divided into A and B categories with 4 TSR personnel being deployed in each A category polling station and 4 armed police personnel being deployed in each B category polling station.

Moreover, following the directive of the Supreme Court additional 15 sections of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are have been deployed across the state for the polls.

Notably, while the ruling 'anti-Bengali' BJP has already won 112 of the total 334 seats uncontested, it's a battle of prestige for them in the remaining seats with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) making an all-out effort to make a mark ahead of the Assembly Elections.

A total of 5,94,772 voters are eligible to vote in the Municipal Poll, with female voters outnumbering male voters in urban areas.

Meanwhile, as of 11 am, 21.79 percent of polling was recorded, as per reports. The counting of votes will be held on 28 November.

Elections for more than 200 seats in the Agartala Municipal Corporation and other municipal bodies along with 6 Nagar Panchayats will be held tomorrow amid tight security arrangements in Tripura.

While the ruling 'anti-Bengali' BJP has already won 112 of the total 334 seats uncontested, it’s a battle of prestige for it in the remaining seats with the Trinamool Congress making an all-out effort to make a mark ahead of the Assembly Elections.

Voters will decide the fate of close to 800 candidates as they exercise their franchise amid 'so-called' tight security.

Perhaps no other urban local body polls have generated so much interest in recent times like the one in Tripura tomorrow due to the high voltage political war in the run-up to this election which is being seen as a semi-final contest by some ahead of the all crucial Assembly Elections in 2023.

In fact, the TMC had moved the Apex Court requesting that the polls be postponed, however, the same was turned down. As such, all eyes will be on tomorrow’s polls. Apart from the TMC, opposition CPI(M) too is looking to make a comeback in these polls.

Close to 650 polling stations have been set up for the elections to Agartala Municipal Corporation, 7 Municipal Councils, and 6 Nagar Panchayats.

The polling stations have been divided into A and B categories with 4 TSR personnel being deployed in each A category polling station and 4 armed police personnel being deployed in each B category polling station.

The High Court of Tripura has ordered the state Government to immediately close all shops illegally selling wild animals and birds protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and asked the Government to furnish a compliance report within two weeks from the date of order.

The court also observed that 12 pet shops are running in Agartala city without registration.

In an order issued Tuesday, High Court Chief Justice Indrajit Mahanty and Justice S G Chattopadhyay observed that all twelve owners of the unlicensed pet shops were asked to procure due license from the State Animal Welfare Board but they didn't comply.

"This court records its surprise that once the authority has found the 12 (twelve) pet shops and breeding centres as being unlicensed, they were statutorily required to act in accordance with law and direct immediate closure of all such activities which cannot be carried out without the necessary licence," the court order reads.

The Bench also directed the State Animal Welfare Board and the Agartala Municipal Corporation to ensure all such illegal pet shops and breeding centres operating without necessary licences are shut down. License can be allowed only after due application and inspection, the court said.

The court also flagged reports of illegal sale of wild animals and birds protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and said in its order, "This court is further informed at the Bar that there appears also to be commercial activities in sale of wild animals and birds duly notified under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Accordingly, we also direct the authorities under the Wildlife (Protection) Act to take similar action of closure of all such shops where animals and birds covered thereunder are being sold and such compliance order shall also be filed before this court within a period of two weeks." All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and workers were allegedly attacked in the Dhalai District of Tripura on Saturday.

Several TMC leaders and workers have been injured in the attack. There are also reports of several vehicles being vandalised.

The incident took place when a delegation led by TMC leaders Jaya Dutta, Debanshu Bhattacharya and Sudip Raha reached the Dhalai District to attend a program.

TMC leaders alleged that their convoy was attacked with huge bricks and stones on the Assam-Tripura State Highway. Party leaders were injured and vehicles damaged, said the Trinamool Congress.

Following the incident, TMC workers blocked roads and held demonstrations in the area to protest against the attack.

Meanwhile, TMC Member of Parliament (MP) Abhishek Banerjee has accused the BJP of 'barbarism'.

"The goons of BJP Tripura have shown their true colours. This barbaric attack on Trinamool workers reveals the 'Goonda Raj' in Tripura. Your threats and attacks only prove your inhumanity. Do what you can... Trinamool will not budge an inch,"Abhishek Banerjee wrote on Twitter.

The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Director General of Police in Tripura over the alleged attack on the convoy of Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee during his visit to the state on Monday. The party has urged the police to take prompt action in the matter.

In the letter, the TMC has written that the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was on his way to Tripureswari Temple in Agartala when he came "under violent attack from certain anti-social elements who had placed themselves on the route". His convoy was allegedly gherao-ed and attacked with stones and sticks. His personal security officers were reportedly injured in the incident.

In its complaint, the TMC has alleged that the perpetrators of the attack were "agents of the BJP" whose sole objective was to "disrupt his journey" and "endanger his life". The party has called the incident an "attempt to murder" Abhishek Banerjee.

The complaint further states that the perpetrators were holding iron rods and sticks apart from BJP flags and that the local policemen stood as "mute spectators" during the alleged attack. The party's complaint claims that the attack was "meticulously planned by the ruling dispensation in Tripura". At present, Biplab Kumar Deb of the BJP is the Chief Minister of Tripura.

The TMC has demanded the registration of an FIR and an investigation resulting in arrest of the perpetrators. | The Bengal Newz
