The Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) has lodged a complaint with the West Agartala Police Station against popular YouTuber "UK07 Rider" Anurag Dobhal for allegedly violating regulations prohibiting the recording of videos and taking pictures inside the Ujjayanta Palace Museum in Agartala. The complaint was filed on Saturday under the protocols governing Ancient Monuments and Historical Places as adopted by the Tripura Government.

The Youth Tipra Federation, the youth wing of the Tipra M***a Party, took action following a call from the party’s founder, Bubagra Pradyot Kishore Manikya, who demanded an FIR to investigate the circumstances under which Anurag Dobhal was allowed to film inside the museum. He also sought clarification on whether official permission was granted and, if so, who authorized it.

According to the complaint, videos uploaded on social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube over the past few days have raised serious concerns among the people of Tripura. The footage, reportedly recorded within the Ujjayanta Palace Museum, has sparked widespread surprise and criticism.

“Regardless of whether permission was granted, our understanding is that recording videos and taking pictures inside the Ujjayanta Palace Museum—managed by the Higher Education Department, Government of Tripura—is strictly prohibited. The museum is a protected site under the regulations framed by the Tripura Government concerning Ancient Historical Monuments. Ujjayanta Palace stands as a proud landmark of Northeast India,” the YTF stated in its complaint.

The organization has urged authorities to take strict legal action against the YouTuber and any officials responsible for allowing the violation. They emphasized the need for immediate corrective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

This development has sparked discussions on the enforcement of rules at heritage sites, with many citizens demanding stricter monitoring and action against those who disregard regulations meant to protect historical monuments.

The use of dynamite blasts for gas exploration by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has caused significant damage to dozens of houses belonging to the indigenous community in West Tripura. In response, local residents have blocked the movement of ONGC’s heavy machinery and are demanding monetary compensation for their losses.

Belbari, located in Khumulwng, the administrative headquarters of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council(TTAADC), has become the latest flashpoint in the ongoing tension. The blasts have led to cracks in 32 households, sparking anger among affected families. Reports indicate that these damaged structures belong to 27 families.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Similar cases were reported in 2021, 2023, and 2024 in different parts of Tripura. Despite growing concerns from residents, ONGC continues its exploration activities, claiming they are part of a scientific survey to assess potential gas reserves in the region.

The affected families have filed a complaint with the district administration, seeking compensation for the damages. However, ONGC has yet to agree to their demands, further fueling local frustration.

Government officials, including the Block Development Officer of the Jirania administrative block and officers from the tribal autonomous council, have visited the site to assess the situation. The residents remain firm in their stance, insisting that ONGC take responsibility for the damages caused by their exploration work.

As tensions rise, it remains to be seen how authorities will address the demands of the indigenous community and whether ONGC will respond to their grievances.

A team of pediatric surgeons at "Tripura Medical College (TMC), Hapania", led by "Dr. Aniruddha Basak", has successfully performed a rare and complex surgery on a "17-day-old infant" suffering from "sacrococcygeal teratoma", a tumor that develops at the base of the spine.

The case was initially referred from GB Pant Hospital, Agartala, when the baby was just 15 days old. Due to the tumor’s potential risks affecting the spinal cord and a**l sphincter, doctors decided to proceed with surgery without delay. The two-hour-long procedure successfully removed the tumor.

Dr. Basak explained, “Sacrococcygeal teratoma is a rare condition where a tumor forms on a fetus’ tailbone. The baby also had low birth weight, which added to the complexity of the case. A healthy newborn typically weighs around 2.5 kg, but this baby weighed only 1.7 kg at admission. The tumor itself weighed approximately 100 grams, making the actual weight of the baby 1.6 kg.”

Following the surgery, the infant is now stable and responding well to treatment. Doctors confirmed that the baby is being fed by the mother and has no complications in passing stool.

Describing the procedure as a major achievement for the hospital’s pediatric surgery team, Dr. Basak expressed satisfaction with the outcome. “This successful operation marks a significant milestone for our team and brings hope for infants facing similar conditions,” he added.

This remarkable success highlights the "expertise of Tripura’s medical professionals" and reinforces the state’s growing capacity in handling complex pediatric cases.

19/01/2025

On January 19, Tripura celebrates "Kokborok Day" to mark the official recognition of Kokborok as a state language in 1979. The day is observed with cultural programs, literary activities, and events aimed at promoting and preserving the language, which holds deep historical and cultural significance for the indigenous Tripuri people.

Kokborok, one of the oldest languages in Northeast India, traces its origins back to the "1st century AD", as mentioned in "Rajratnakar", a chronicle of Tripuri kings. Despite historical challenges, the language has seen a revival, particularly in education. Since the 1980s, Kokborok has been taught in schools across Tripura. Higher education institutions have also embraced it, with "Tripura University introducing a certificate course in 1994", followed by a "postgraduate diploma in 2001, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) program in 2012, and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in 2015".

Kokborok Day is more than just a linguistic celebration—it is a testament to the resilience and cultural pride of the "Tripuri community". The day serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving indigenous languages and traditions. People express their gratitude through heartfelt messages, cultural performances, and awareness programs that highlight Kokborok’s role in maintaining the distinct identity of the Tripuri people.

As the state continues its efforts to promote and develop Kokborok, Kokborok Day stands as a symbol of "unity, heritage, and linguistic pride", ensuring that the language thrives for generations to come.

14/01/2025

Hangrai, celebrated during Makar Sankranti, holds profound cultural and spiritual significance for the Tripuri community. Rooted in mythology and tradition, it honors ancestral spirits and marks the culmination of the harvest season.

According to legend, Lord Shiva created two humans, Hangrai and Subrai, who symbolize respect and brotherhood. Their story, steeped in themes of devotion and reconciliation, forms the spiritual basis of the festival. The rituals associated with Hangrai include immersing the remains of deceased family members in the sacred Twima Kormoti (Gomati) River, symbolizing respect for departed souls.

Preparations begin days in advance with house cleaning, cooking traditional rice cakes (Awangs), and brewing rice-based beverages like Arak. Youths build straw huts called "Hangrai Nok" near ponds, where they celebrate with feasting and communal bonding throughout the night.

The festival also features rituals for ancestor worship, prayers for well-being, and the shaving of heads as a mark of respect. A fair accompanies the celebrations, showcasing Tripuri culture and traditions.

Hangrai continues to be a vital celebration, preserving the heritage and spiritual values of the Tripuri people while bringing families and communities together in joy and reflection.

11/01/2025

The Tripura Assembly on Friday introduced a significant amendment bill proposing substantial hikes in the salaries, allowances, and pensions of Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and former legislators.

The Ninth Amendment Bill, presented by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath, outlines proposals that, in some cases, double the financial benefits and allowances for lawmakers. According to the proposed bill, the Chief Minister's monthly salary will increase to Rs 97,000, while the salaries for the Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, Assembly Speaker, Leader of Opposition, and Government Chief Whip will range between Rs 94,000 and Rs 96,000. MLAs' salaries will rise to Rs 93,000 per month.

Beyond the base salaries, additional allowances for officials, including sumptuary, hospitality, telephone, and house rent allowances, have also been outlined.

For former legislators, pensions are set to see a significant rise. The proposed revision increases the monthly pension from Rs 34,500 to Rs 66,000, while family pensions will go up from Rs 25,000 to Rs 48,000.

One of the key changes in the bill is the provision allowing retirement benefits and pensions to all MLAs who have served even a single day in office. This marks a significant shift from the previous policy requiring a minimum service of four-and-a-half years to qualify for such benefits.

The Winter Session of the Tripura Assembly, which began Friday, will continue until January 15.

Agartala witnessed a significant demonstration today as the Twipra Students Federation (TSF) staged a protest near the Gandhi statue at Circuit House, demanding the adoption of the Roman script for Kokborok language. The protest aims to push the Tripura Legislative Assembly to address this long-standing demand during its winter session.

The TSF, a student wing of the North East Students Organisation (NESO), voiced their concerns about the lack of progress in recognizing the Roman script for Kokborok despite years of petitions and memorandums. Speaking to reporters, TSF Vice President John Debbarma emphasized their frustration over the government's inaction.

“We have met the Tripura Board of Secondary Education President and the Special Secretary of the Education Department multiple times. Despite assurances of updates by 2025, no progress has been made,” said Debbarma.

He highlighted their attempts to secure further meetings with officials, which have been met with resistance. “The lack of response from the government is disappointing. Ministers represent everyone, and it's their duty to raise and resolve this issue in the Assembly,” Debbarma added.

The student body emphasized that justice must be served for peace to prevail. They urged ministers to address their demand during the ongoing Assembly session to ensure the voices of Kokborok speakers are heard and respected.

The TSF also organized a march towards the Assembly as part of their protest, reaffirming their determination to achieve recognition for Kokborok in the Roman script.
