IndiGo is facing one of its most severe operational disruptions as flight cancellations continue across the country for the fifth straight day. On Saturday alone, 405 domestic flights were cancelled, adding to the growing frustration of thousands of passengers stuck at major airports.

India’s largest airline, which normally operates around 2,300 flights daily with a fleet of over 400 aircraft, has seen a sharp decline in punctuality after its scheduling system collapsed under pressure. The root of the crisis lies in a significant pilot shortage, triggered by planning gaps and the airline’s inability to adjust to stricter DGCA duty-and-rest regulations that increased weekly rest hours, widened the night-duty window, and reduced maximum night landings.

With crew availability dropping and rosters failing, aircraft remained grounded, and delays spread rapidly across major hubs including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. Passengers have been demanding faster refunds, better support, and clearer communication as alternative flights become harder to find and ticket prices rise sharply.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and DGCA has stepped in with temporary relaxations and instructions for the airline to clear pending refunds and stabilise operations. IndiGo has acknowledged the planning lapses and is working to realign crew schedules, but a complete return to normalcy may still take several days.

✈️ Travellers are advised to check their flight status frequently, expect delays, and consider alternative routes where possible.
