Hoarding of Article 371G of Indian Constitution Unfurled today
As part of marking of the signing of historic Memorundum of Settlement or the Mizo Peace Accord,The Mizo National Youth Frant Hqrs Aizawl erected a Hoarding of Art.371G of the Indian Constitution at the road side in front of Mizo Hnam Run today.The Mizo Peace Accord was signed on 30th June 1986 between the Govt of India,the MNF and the Govt of Mizoram at New Delhi.
The Art 371G Hoarding was unveiled by Lalkhama IAS,ex-MLA & Chief Secretary Rtd of Mizoram who is also one of the 3 Signatories of the Mizo Peace Accord 1986.Speaking on the occasion Lalkhama said that the sacrifices and sufferings of the MNF cadres and the brave martyrs are the real heroes because of whom the Peace Accord and its outcomes could become a reality.He urged that the protection given to the people of Mizoram under Art 371G needs to be made known to more people.The initiative of the MNYF to commemorate the 39th Anniversary of signing of Peace Accord in the form of Er****on of Art 371G Hoarding deserves appreciation he said.
MLA Robert R.Royte,President of MNYF also spoke at the Function.He said that the Peace Accord mandated the Parliament to enact the 53rd Constitutional Amendment Act 1986 which in turn incorporated the provisions and safeguards for the Mizos under Art 371G.He went to the extent of saying that the Mizoram Assembly has the constitutional power to accept or reject the Parliament acts in matters concerning Mizo religion,customary law and land as per Art 371G.He further stated that only Mizoram and Nagaland Assemblies have such powers.
