This historic monument is named after the Goa Viceroy’s daughter Dona Paula de Menezes during colonial rule.
The story revolves around a tragic romance between Dona Paula, and a local fisherman. Their love was forbidden by her father, leading Dona Paula to allegedly jump to her death from a cliff overlooking the Arabian Sea. The area, now known as Dona Paula, is named in her memory and is a popular tourist spot. Today, locals share some haunted stories about Dona Paula and refer to this area as the`lovers” paradise” of Goa.
Adding to the beauty is the vast stretch of beach with tall palm trees. Dona Paula Beach also is the meeting point of the Zuari and Mandovi Rivers making it a perfect place to click memorable pictures.
