’s Nature-Friendly Campus Blossoms with Colour at Annual Chrysanthemum, Coleus and Rose Show-2025
The lush, eco-friendly campus of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was transformed into a spectacle of colours and fragrances as the Gulistan-e-Syed Garden played host to the Annual Chrysanthemum, Coleus, and Rose Show-2025, captivating the university fraternity and residents of the Aligarh region. The two-day Flower Show, organised by the Department of Land and Gardens, from December 13 to 14, reflects the university’s sustained commitment to environmental conservation, rich biodiversity, and sustainable landscape development.
Inaugurating the show, AMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Naima Khatoon admired the meticulous horticultural efforts that transformed the garden into a canvas of dazzling blooms, captivating fragrances, and a kaleidoscope of colours. Emphasising the ecological ethos of the university, she remarked, “AMU’s green spaces are living classrooms that reflect our collective responsibility towards nature. Such initiatives not only beautify the campus but also nurture environmental consciousness among our students and society.”
The Flower Show presents an impressive display of horticultural mastery across seven competitive classes, showcasing a total of 690 presentations. Class A features 47 rose entries, while Class B highlights 14 creative flower arrangements curated by malies, ladies, and children. Class C includes 245 vibrant Coleus exhibits, and Class D displays 93 Chrysanthemum entries in single and double varieties. The much-anticipated ‘King and Queen of the Show’ category in Class E comprises 16 elite floral presentations. Class F features 86 entries of Korean, Button, Pompon, and other Chrysanthemum types, while Class G showcases 189 ornamental indoor and outdoor plants.
Sharing details of the event, Professor Shahzad Anwar, Member In-Charge, Department of Land and Gardens, informed that participants represent a wide cross-section of the university, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge, Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge, Registrar’s Lodge, Guest Houses 1, 2 & 3, MA Library, ZH College of Engineering and Technology, Kennedy Hall, Department of Electrical Engineering, AMU Girls School, SS Hall (South), VG Nursery , Administrative Block, SS Hall Mosque, Sir Syed House, Gulistan-e-Syed, Al-Barkaat Public School and others.
The event witnessed the presence of several senior university officials, deans, chairmen, MICs, provosts, and faculty members, reflecting collective appreciation for AMU’s green legacy. The Flower Show not only celebrates aesthetic excellence but also cements AMU’s identity as an environmentally conscious campus where nature and knowledge flourish in harmony.
