This page is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Aligarh Muslim University administration. Aligarh Muslim University was established by the great social reformer, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. It was established as the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College (MAO College), in 1875. In 1920, the College was converted into a full fledged University by an act of Parliament. Today,the Aligarh Muslim University is the 5th best University in the Country. The nation wide expansion of AMU in the form of establishment of centres in Kerala and West Bengal is a physical manifestation of the dream of the great founder. This expansion drive of AMU has been hailed by the national media as the "RELAUNCH OF THE ALIGARH MOVEMENT". The campuses have been established under Section 12(2) of the AMU Act 1981. The establishment of the AMU campuses would pave the way for an Educational Renaissance among the people of the respective regions. These campuses are envisioned to become separate universities when AMU would be celebrating its centenary celebrations in 2020. The AMU - MC has recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary. It has a total strength of 300 students, with 2 departments, namely the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Law. There are presently 2 batches for MBA and 3 batches for BA LLB. There are 2 hostels for girls and 5 hostels for boys. With Best Regards,

14 Geology Students Qualify CSIR-UGC NET/JRF

Aligarh, September 21: Fourteen students of the Department of Geology, Aligarh Muslim University, have qualified the CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in June 2026. Of the successful candidates, seven students have qualified for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), while the remaining seven have qualified for NET.

The students who qualified for JRF include Md. Adil Khan (AIR 24), Aamina Saghir (AIR 35), Mohd. Atif (AIR 37), Shailesh Singh Chaudhary (AIR 42), Mohd Ibrahim Saifi (AIR 46), Alisha Zaheer (AIR 53) and Mumtaj Khan (AIR 54).

The seven students who qualified for NET are Hifsa Aafreen (AIR 3), Misbah Khan (AIR 15), Lazeena Ali (AIR 33), Mohd. Azeem (AIR 55), Shadab Hussain (AIR 69), Farrukh Hasan (AIR 90) and Farhan Akhter (AIR 116).

Prof. Rashid Umar, Chairperson of the Department said that the impressive All India Ranks secured by several students reflect their strong performance in the highly competitive national examination. He attributed the achievement to the students’ hard work and dedication, along with the guidance and support provided by the faculty members of the Department of Geology.

AMU Faculty Member Delivers Lecture on Internship and Career Development

Aligarh, September 21: Dr. Wasifullah Khan, Associate Professor, University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University, emphasised the importance of corporate readiness, practical exposure and skill development for students at a special programme titled “The Role of Internship in Career Development”, recently organised at the ACN College of Engineering & Management Studies (ACNCEMS), Aligarh.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Khan explained the importance of internships in providing students with practical industry exposure and helping them prepare for professional careers.

Dr. M. Wasi Baig, Director, ACNCEMS, welcomed the speaker and students. He highlighted the institution’s efforts to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world industrial requirements.

Dr. R.A. Chudhary, Chairman, ACN Group, commended the management and faculty members for organising career-oriented programmes for students.

The programme was coordinated and anchored by students Hira and Aafia. It concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students discussed various opportunities for securing meaningful internships.

Social Work Department Holds 31st Orientation Programme for New MSW Students

Aligarh, September 21: The Department of Social Work, Aligarh Muslim University, organised its 31st Orientation Programme for students of MSW-I Semester (2026-27) at faculty of Arts lounge. The week-long programme, being held from September 21 to 28, aims to familiarise the newly admitted students with the University and Department, their academic environment, opportunities and the importance of holistic personal and professional development.

Inaugurating the Orientation Programme Chief Guest, Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice-Chancellor, AMU, congratulated them on joining the University and appreciated the achievements of the Department. Recalling her association with the Department as a teacher, she described it as a flagship department of the University.

She emphasised the employability of social work education and appreciated the Department's outreach initiatives, collaborations with Indian and foreign universities and research projects. She urged the faculty and students to continue their efforts to strengthen the Department's position at the national and international levels.

Prof. Naima Khatoon advised the students to focus on their overall personality development and make the most of their time at AMU. Referring to the University's tradition of “Taleem ke saath Tarbiyat”, she stressed the importance of education along with moral and personal development and urged students to remain focused despite distractions.

Guest of Honour Prof. Athar Ansari, Dean Students' Welfare, highlighted the contribution of social workers to society and appreciated the Department's work. Recalling the collaboration between Community Medicine, UNICEF and the Department of Social Work in polio eradication efforts, he urged the students to develop dedication, motivation, humanity and good listening skills.

He also encouraged students to join University clubs and hobby clubs for their overall development and advised them to utilise their time productively for studies, library work, hobbies and sports.

Prof. Naseem Ahmad, retired Chairperson of the Department, spoke about the importance of maintaining the Department's academic standing and AMU's culture. He stressed community engagement, skill enhancement, research projects and improved placement opportunities. He also encouraged students from diverse academic backgrounds to make the most of the orientation programme.

Prof. Ikram Hussain, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, advised the students to understand themselves and set clear goals in life. He emphasised development beyond academics and encouraged students to participate in fitness activities, NCC, NSS and other University clubs to enhance their overall personality.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Mohammad Tahir, Coordinator of the Orientation Programme, highlighted the achievements and academic profile of the Department. He said that the Department has consistently figured among the top 12 schools of social work in the country since 2018 and secured the 12th position nationally in the Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2026 among the top 35 social work institutes.

He also highlighted the Department's 80-85 per cent campus placement record, with students being placed in organisations including Power Grid Corporation, Jindal Power, Azim Premji Foundation, PRADAN, UNICEF and Uttar Pradesh Rural Livelihood Mission. He added that 30 students had qualified JRF/NET examinations during the past five academic sessions.

Dr. Tahir said the Department is the nodal office of AMU for the Village Adoption Programme and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and undertakes outreach activities in adopted villages. He also highlighted collaborations and MoUs with institutions and organisations including Johns Hopkins University, IIT Delhi, the MDM Authority of Uttar Pradesh, Power Grid Corporation, Jal Jeevan Mission and the Department of Panchayati Raj.

He informed that the Department has upgraded its syllabus based on feedback and introduced four additional optional papers. He further said that new postgraduate programmes in Medical/Psychiatric Social Work and NGO Management and Corporate Social Responsibility are proposed to be launched.

Dr. Md. Arif Khan conducted the proceedings, while Dr. Qurratulain Ali proposed the vote of thanks.

AMU’s Dr Qazi Ehsan Ali Calls for AI Integration in Future Trauma Care

Aligarh, September 21: Dr Qazi Ehsan Ali, Senior Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, and Principal of the Paramedical College and Director of the Medical Attendance Scheme, highlighted the importance of strengthening trauma care and integrating emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) into future trauma-care training and clinical practice at a two-day Trauma Summit in Greater Noida.

The summit, titled “Phoenix - The Great Unburdening”, was organised at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, and Hotel Expo Inn & Suites by the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care, GIMS, in collaboration with the Department of Emergency Medicine.

Speaking during the summit, Dr Qazi Ehsan Ali noted that a large number of trauma cases result from road and highway accidents, making timely intervention and coordinated trauma management essential.

Discussing the future of trauma care, he suggested incorporating computer-based patient assessment systems and AI into trauma-care training and clinical discussions. He explained that clinical parameters and patient information could potentially be analysed through computer-based systems to provide additional information to assist doctors in determining further management.

However, he emphasised that AI should remain a supportive tool and not replace clinical judgment. Comprehensive assessment by doctors would continue to be essential, while AI-based systems could provide supplementary analytical support.

Prof. M. J. Warsi Delivers Inaugural Lecture at Online Refresher Course on Language and Linguistics

Aligarh, September 21: Prof. M. J. Warsi, Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), delivered the inaugural lecture as chief guest at an online two-week refresher course on “Language and Linguistics: Contemporary Theories, Applications and Interdisciplinary Perspective”, organised by the Department of Linguistics, Berhampur University, Odisha.

Speaking on “Multilingualism and Multidisciplinary Perspective in Higher Education: Towards a Sustainable India”, Prof. Warsi highlighted the growing significance of linguistic diversity in the context of sustainable development and digital transformation.

He said a society cannot be truly sustainable if development leads to educational exclusion, social inequality, cultural marginalisation or the gradual loss of linguistic resources through which communities preserve and transmit knowledge.

Prof. Warsi said that the 2030 Agenda’s commitment to “leave no one behind” could, in the Indian context, also be understood as a call to ensure that linguistic diversity is not left behind. He pointed out that as education, healthcare, financial services and other essential systems increasingly move online, languages with limited digital resources may face new forms of exclusion.

AMU BSJ Hall Orientation Programme Promotes Mentorship, Well-being and Responsible Campus Life

Aligarh, September 21: Begum Sultan Jahan (BSJ) Hall, Aligarh Muslim University, organised an orientation programme for newly admitted students to facilitate a smooth transition into university and hostel life, while sensitising them to well-being, mentorship, safety, hygiene, mutual respect and responsible community living.

Dr. Fatima Khan, Provost, BSJ Hall, introduced the freshers to the Hall’s facilities, rules and support systems and emphasised the importance of discipline, mutual support, physical and mental well-being, hygiene and healthy community living. She reiterated that BSJ Hall is a No-Ragging Zone and encouraged senior residents to guide and support the new students.

A key highlight was the launch of “Synnect: A Peer Mentorship Programme”, under which experienced students will mentor freshers on academics, campus facilities and everyday hostel life. The initiative aims to strengthen peer support and make the transition to university life more comfortable.

Mental health sensitisation was another important component of the programme. A skit presented by students highlighted common academic and personal challenges and encouraged students to seek timely counselling and emotional support, while promoting open conversations around mental well-being.

Dr. Faiza Abbasi, Director, UGC MMTTC, AMU, highlighted the vision of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and the values of education, unity and institution-building.

Prof. Subuhi Khan, Deputy DSW, and Ms. Aziza Rizvi shared their hostel experiences and encouraged the freshers to make meaningful use of their university years through dedication, integrity and responsible participation in campus life.

The programme also included felicitation of the organising committee and student volunteers. Dr. Nazia Haneef, Warden, proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Rabia Riyaz, among others, attended the programme.

The orientation reinforced the message that hostel life at AMU extends beyond accommodation, providing students with opportunities for mentorship, personal growth, social responsibility, well-being and meaningful community engagement.

AMU JNMC Pediatrics Students Excel in IAP Postgraduate Quiz and NNF Uttar Pradesh Awards

Aligarh, September 21: Students of the Department of Pediatrics, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), have brought laurels to the institution through their performance in academic competitions at the state and divisional levels. Their achievements reflect JNMC’s commitment to the overall grooming of its students by nurturing academic excellence, teamwork, confidence, presentation skills, and a spirit of healthy competition alongside clinical training.

Dr. Nirmaljeet Kaur and Dr. Mushahid Raza Khan, second-year MD Pediatrics students at JNMC, won the Divisional Round of the 20th Annual Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Postgraduate Pediatric Quiz-2026, held on September 10, 2026, in Agra. Competing against teams from other medical colleges, the JNMC team emerged victorious and has now qualified for the UP Zonal Round of the competition.

Congratulating the students on their achievement, Prof. Shaad Abqari, Chairperson, Department of Pediatrics, appreciated their dedication and academic enthusiasm and wished them success in the upcoming round.

In another significant achievement, JNMC Pediatrics students showcased their talent at the Annual Conference of the National Neonatology Forum (NNF), Uttar Pradesh State, held on September 13, 2026, in Aligarh.

Dr. Neha Singh Sengar and Dr. Swati Upadhyay, second-year MD Pediatrics students, won the Uttar Pradesh NNF Quiz, demonstrating their strong knowledge and ability to perform effectively in a competitive academic environment. Adding another distinction to JNMC’s achievements, Dr. Himang Bharadwaj, a third-year MD Pediatrics student, secured Second Prize in the Award Paper category for his scholarly presentation at the conference.

These accomplishments highlight the multifaceted development of postgraduate students at JNMC, where academic pursuits are complemented by opportunities to participate in quizzes, research presentations, professional conferences, and other scholarly activities.

AMU Faculty Member Calls for Future-Ready Legal Frameworks

Aligarh, September 21: Prof. S. Ali Nawaz Zaidi, Professor, Department of Law, Aligarh Muslim University emphasised that rapid technological transformation demands dynamic, interdisciplinary and future-ready legal frameworks.

Addressing the second International Law Seminar, titled “Governing Tomorrow: Interdisciplinary Pathways in Law, Technology, Sustainability, Governance and Economic Development”, organised by the Department of Law, Prestige Institute of Management & Research (PIMR), Gwalior, in memory of the late Shri Justice M. A. Shah, Prof. Zaidi highlighted the growing impact of technology on law and society.

He stressed the importance of integrating law with technology, sustainability, governance and economic development to ensure responsive legal systems and effective governance. Prof. Zaidi also called upon legal institutions, researchers and students to understand emerging technologies and contribute to an ethical, inclusive and accountable legal system.

The two-day seminar brought together academicians, legal professionals, researchers and students for academic deliberations on emerging issues at the intersection of law, technology, sustainability, governance and economic development.

THE DAY A DREAM WITH 7 STUDENTS BECAME AMU

Year: 1875. Place: Aligarh.
A 58-year-old man named Sir Syed Ahmad Khan had just returned from England. He was heartbroken to see his community left behind after 1857.
​
People mocked him. They said — "Angrezi taleem is haram."

But he had seen Oxford and Cambridge with his own eyes. He said, "I want to make an Oxford in India where Quran is in one hand and Science in the other."
​
On 24th May 1875, he started a small school — Madrasa-tul-Uloom — with only 7 students on a piece of land.

No funds. No building. Just a dream.
​
That same small school became MAO College in 1877, and on 1st December 1920, the British Parliament passed the AMU Act and it became ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY.

Today that small dream is 1200+ acres, the iconic Bab-e-Syed, and lakhs of Aligarians across the world.

That is why our motto still says:
عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
Taught man that which he knew not.
