In , cancer incidence tracked by the National Cancer Hospital (Oncology Teaching Center) indicates that breast cancer is the most common among women, while prostate and lung cancers are the most prevalent among men.

1. Female Patients

Breast cancer remained the leading diagnosis in both years, representing over 41% of female cases. Other highly prevalent types among women in Najaf include:

Breast Cancer: ~41.35% in 2023 and ~41.25% in 2024
Thyroid Gland Malignancies: Rose from 2.53% in 2023 to 5.42% in 2024
Ovarian Cancer: 5.77% in 2023 and 5.00% in 2024
Cervical Cancer: Fell from 2.39% to 1.39% over the same period

2. Male Patients

For males, prostate and lung malignancies were the most frequently recorded. Key statistics include:

Prostate Cancer: Became the leading male diagnosis, rising from 7.75% in 2023 to 11.09% in 2024
Lung Cancer: Consistently ranked as the second most common, spanning 12.60% (2023) to 13.86% (2024)
Bladder Cancer: Showed a marked decrease over the period, dropping from 11.43% to 8.50%Trends and Geographical Distribution
