Arunachal Pradesh took a historic stand today on the protection of indigenous tribal rights after a crucial seven-hour marathon Consultative Meeting on ILP, APST matters, and constitutional safeguards ended with major resolutions that could redefine the future of the state.
The intensive meeting witnessed the participation of student bodies, legal experts, political leaders, community-based organisations, and civil society groups, reflecting growing public concern over the preservation of indigenous identity, land, and demographic security.
In one of the strongest decisions taken so far, the state has, in principle, agreed to move towards establishing a separate dedicated ILP Department to strengthen the Inner Line Permit system and tighten mechanisms related to indigenous protection.
Participants stressed that safeguarding Arunachal Pradesh’s tribal identity can no longer be delayed, especially amid rising concerns over illegal entry, misuse of documentation systems, and threats to constitutional protections enjoyed by indigenous communities.
The meeting also resolved to constitute seven-member delegations from AITF, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union, ST Bachao Andolan Committee, and legal experts for a crucial high-level follow-up meeting on May 29.
The upcoming discussions are expected to finalise a stronger roadmap on ILP enforcement, APST verification, and long-term legal safeguards aimed at protecting the future of indigenous tribes in Arunachal Pradesh.
Observers described today’s meeting as one of the most serious and decisive collective efforts in recent years, signalling a new phase in the fight to protect the identity, rights, and constitutional interests of the indigenous people of Arunachal Pradesh.
