NIA Arrests 2 Locals for Harbouring LeT Terrorists in Pahalgam Attack That Killed 26 Tourists.

New Delhi, June 22, 2025 : In a major breakthrough in the deadly Pahalgam terror attack case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday said that it has arrested two individuals accused of sheltering the three Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who carried out the brutal massacre of 26 innocent tourists including one local in April this year.

The accused, Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar of Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar of Hill Park, Pahalgam, have been taken into custody under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the NIA said in an official release to Srinagar.

The two men knowingly provided food, shelter, and logistical support to the LeT terrorists at a seasonal dhok (hut) in Hill Park prior to the attack. The terrorists used this hideout as a staging ground before launching their assault on April 22, where 26 unarmed tourists were killed and 16 others grievously injured, in what investigators now confirm was a religiously motivated targeted killing.

The NIA stated that the arrested duo had confirmed the identities of the attackers, all of whom were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the banned LeT outfit. The agency also emphasized the deliberate and brutal nature of the killings, describing the attack as one of the most gruesome terror incidents in recent times.

The case, registered as RC-02/2025/NIA/JMU, is being handled by the Jammu branch of the NIA, which continues its probe into wider links, possible local networks, and cross-border handlers involved in orchestrating the attack.

Further investigations are underway, NIA said.

Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan: Mega Awareness and Benefit Saturation Camps Held Across Anantnag

Anantnag, June 16: As part of the ongoing Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, a 15-day outreach campaign aimed at empowering tribal communities, the District Administration Anantnag today organized mega awareness and benefit saturation camps at various panchayats in the district.

The camps witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local tribal population. Resource persons from various government departments engaged with the attendees, providing detailed information on a wide range of welfare schemes.

During the camps, officials not only raised awareness about social security, livelihood, and skill development programs but also addressed several grievances of the locals. A number of issues raised by participants were resolved on the spot.

Speaking on the occasion, officers from various line departments emphasized the importance of ensuring last-mile delivery of government services to marginalized sections, particularly in remote tribal areas. They highlighted the efforts made by the administration to facilitate access to welfare schemes and bridge gaps in public service delivery.

As part of the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, the District Administration is conducting such awareness camps across identified locations in the district. These camps, scheduled to continue until June 30, 2025, aim to ensure that no tribal household is left out of the benefits of various government schemes.

The outreach initiative aligns with the government’s inclusive development goals and focuses on participatory governance through awareness, facilitation, and the resolution of public grievances at the grassroots level.

Local community members appreciated the efforts of the administration and expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to bring positive changes to their socio-economic conditions.

The DAJGU Abhiyan underscores the District Administration’s commitment to inclusive development and tribal empowerment. The initiative is being closely monitored by the District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, with regular reviews and field visits planned to ensure transparency, effectiveness, and saturation of services.
