Anantnag Police Catch 26-Year Fugitive Alongside Four Other Long-Term Absconders in Major Crackdown

Anantnag, October 17, 2025: In a significant crackdown on long-term absconders, Anantnag Police have successfully apprehended five individuals who had been evading arrest for years in connection with serious criminal offenses, including abduction, r**e, and theft.

_Details of Arrested Absconders:_

1. Mohd Yasin Wani, S/O Mohd Maqbool Wani, R/O Brenti Batpora Dailgam, A/P Nagam Kokernag. He was evading arrest in case FIR No. 90/2005 under sections 366, 376 RPC of Police Station Kokernag.

2. Abdul Gani Dar, S/O Juma Dar, R/O Pindobal, A/P Singhpora Ashmuqam. He was wanted in case FIR No. 49/2000 under section 366 RPC of Police Station Kokernag.

3. Sabir Khatana, S/O Shafi Khatana, R/O Ahlan Gadole. He was involved in FIR No. 101/1999 under sections 376, 366, 109 RPC of Police Station Kokernag.

4. Riyaz Ahmad Gigi, S/O Mohd Qasim Gigi, R/O Lamed, Kulgam. He was wanted, in connection with FIR No. 02/2022 and 26/2022 of PS Srigufwara under sections 457, 380, 411, 34, 201 IPC.

5. Manzoor Ahmad Bakerwal, S/O Kaloo Bakerwal, R/O Jorda Arnas Reasi, A/P Noorpora Tral. He was Involved, in case FIR No. 02/2022 and 26/2022 of PS Srigufwara under sections 457, 380, 411, 34, 201 IPC.

All five accused were produced before the different Hon'ble Courts and are now in judicial custody.

These arrests reflect the continued commitment of Anantnag Police to bring all offenders to justice, no matter how long they have been absconding. The department remains dedicated to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of the public.

*Anantnag Police Conducts Parent-Teacher Meetings Across District to Raise Awareness on Drug Abuse and Behavioural Change*

Anantnag, October 17, 2025:In a proactive effort to address drug abuse and its behavioural impact on students, Anantnag Police organised a series of Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) across various schools in the district.

The sessions were held at institutions including RP School Mattan, GHSS Achabal, Town Hall Achabal, Sir Syed Memorial School Dooru, GHSS Pahalgam, English Medium School Larnoo, Police Station Bijbehara, and Nice Higher Secondary School Srigufwara.
During the interactions, police officers, teachers, and parents discussed the growing challenge of substance abuse, behavioural changes observed among affected students, and the crucial role of families and schools in early identification, counselling, and rehabilitation. Officers urged parents to maintain open communication with their children and to seek timely assistance in cases of suspected drug use.

The initiative reflects Anantnag Police’s commitment to community partnership and youth welfare, ensuring continued engagement with educational institutions to foster a supportive and drug-free environment for students.

Two Long-Absconding NDPS Offenders Arrested in Kulgam evading arrest since 2005.

Kulgam, October 17:Continuing its efforts to bring absconders to justice, Kulgam Police today arrested two individuals who had been evading arrest for years in NDPS Act cases.

The arrested persons have been identified as:
1. Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Qadir Sheikh, resident of Nassu Badrahgund, who was wanted in FIR No. 107/2005 under Sections 15/18 NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund. The accused was arrested from near J&K Bank Qazigund after evading arrest for about 20 years.

2. Bilal Ahmad Ganie, son of Gh. Nabi Ganie, resident of Lalen Ganoor Kulgam, presently residing at Levdora near Railway Bridge Qazigund, who was wanted in FIR No. 223/2006 under Sections 15/18 NDPS Act of Police Station Qazigund. The accused was absconding for around 19 years.

Both the accused were evading arrest since long and have now been taken into custody. Their arrest reflects the sustained efforts of Kulgam Police in tracking down long-term absconders involved in NDPS-related offences.

SSP Kulgam, Shri Anayat Choudhary (IPS), while appreciating the teams said that Kulgam Police is committed to bringing all offenders, especially those involved in drug trafficking, to justice. The action against absconders will continue to ensure that no one evades the law.
