Motorcyclist Killed in Road Accident at Nipora Crossing, NH-44

Kulgam, June 30, 2025:
A tragic road accident occurred on Monday evening at the Nipora crossing along National Highway-44, resulting in the unfortunate death of a motorcyclist.

According to official sources, a motorcycle was struck by a speeding truck bearing registration number JK03J 1119 at the said location. The collision led to the instant death of the rider. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Amin Chopan, son of Habib Ullah Chopan, a resident of Chekbadwani, Kurigam Qazigund.

Local authorities, including the police, have taken cognizance of the incident. An investigation has been initiated, and efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver.

Further details will be shared as the investigation progresses.

*Kulgam Police arrests Drug Peddler from mirbazar and recovered Poppy Straw like contraband substance*

*Kulgam June 02: As a part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug menace in society, kulgam Police have arrested a drug peddler at Furrah Qazigund, Kulgam and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substance from his possession.

A Police team from Police Post Mirbazar while patrolling at Furrah near railway track noticed a suspicious person carrying a bag, who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot. However, he was chased and apprehended tactfully. After search, Poppy Straw like contraband substance weighing 1.19 Kg filled in the said bag from his possession was recovered. During preliminary investigation the person revealed his identification as *Farooq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Ahmad Mir resident of Zadoora.

Accordingly, a case has been registered under FIR No. 104/2025 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Qazigund, and further investigation is underway.

Community members are urged to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their areas. Those involved in drug trafficking will be dealt strictly according to the law. Our continued actions against drug peddlers aim to reassure the Public that we are committed to keeping our society free from the scourge of drug menace.
