G.A. Mir Joins NHM Employees’ Protest in Anantnag, Assures Full Support
Anantnag, September 14: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary and MLA Dooru, G.A. Mir, on Monday joined the ongoing 72-hour protest of National Health Mission (NHM) employees outside the CMO Office in Anantnag and assured them of his full support for their demands. The key demands of the protesting employees include regularisation of services, social security and revision of salaries.
Addressing the protesting employees, G.A. Mir said that he had reviewed the guidelines issued by the Central Government regarding NHM employees. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir Government cannot ignore the long-pending demands of the employees merely by referring to the scheme being centrally sponsored.
Mir said that the Central Government has provided states with the scope to modify rules and take appropriate measures according to their requirements and prevailing circumstances, including the regularisation of employees or adopting other suitable mechanisms.
Reacting to a recent statement by Health Minister Sakina Itoo, G.A. Mir said it appeared that she may not have been provided with complete information or proper feedback regarding the issue. He questioned why a solution could not be found in Jammu and Kashmir through dialogue with the employees when several states across the country have taken various measures, including the regularisation of employees working under the NHM scheme.
The Congress leader said that the government should first hold formal talks with the protesting employees and make a sincere effort to understand their demands. He added that if financial constraints were an issue, the matter could be taken up with the Central Government and the concerned Union Minister, but the initiative must come from the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
G.A. Mir said that NHM employees have been serving in the Health Department for several years and have played an important role in providing healthcare services to the public, particularly under difficult circumstances. He said that the issue should be resolved fairly and on humanitarian grounds.
He assured the protesting employees that the Congress Party would extend its full support to their demands and that he would strongly raise the matter at the appropriate platforms.
