अभिनेत्री काजोल कई सफल फिल्मों के साथ घर-घर में मशहूर हो गई हैं। लेकिन बहुत कम लोग जानते हैं कि अगर उनके पिता शोमू मुखर्जी की चलती तो उनका नाम काजोल नहीं बल्कि मर्सिडीज होता।
Actor Kajol has become a household name with a string of successful films to her credit. But not many know that if her father Shomu Mukherjee had his way, she would have been named Mercedes, not Kajol. Thankfully, her mother Tanuja intervened and didn’t let that happen.
In an interview with Mashable India, Kajol revealed the story behind coming so close to being named after a luxury car. When asked if it’s true that Shomu wanted to name his daughter Mercedes, Kajol said, “Yeah he did, he tried very hard but my mom just gave him that look and said, ‘No!’.”
The Trial actor then shared how they finalised her current name.

“Actually, oddly enough, it was written in his (Shomu Mukherjee) mother’s diary. So my grandmother had a diary where he wrote all the names of her children. So she wrote all her son’s names and daughter’s names in it and she wrote down whatever she thought their children’s names would be and she used to call my father ‘Kajol da’. So, that’s how I came to be named Kajol,” shared the actor.
Shomu Mukherjee passed away in 2008 following a cardiac arrest. The actor says that while she shared an unconventional relationship with her mother, she was very close to her father and they doted on each other.
“My dad couldn’t see to any one of my faults and I couldn’t see to any one of his. So I think we were blindly loving each other, constantly,” she said.
Asked if she was her father’s pet or mother’s, the actor said, “Both. I think my sister is my mom’s darling. My mother and I don’t have a typical mother-daughter relationship. I think I am more like my mother’s second-in-command. That is the kind of relationship I have. As far as my dad was concerned, I thought the sun rose and set in my dad and my dad thought the same of me, so yeah definitely Papa’s pet.”
Kajol married Ajay Devgn in 1999 after they started dating post-meeting on the set of their film Hulchul. Together, they have a daughter Nysa and a son Yug.
