Assam Flood Crisis Deepens: 62 Lives Lost, Over 7 Lakh People Affected.
Assam is experiencing severe flooding in July 2026, with the death toll reaching 62 and more than 7 lakh people affected across 12 districts. Sivasagar remains the worst-hit district, followed by Charaideo and Jorhat, as rivers including the Dikhou and Dhansiri continue to flow above danger levels.
Around 856 villages are submerged, and nearly 56,000 hectares of cropland have been damaged. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has set up 363 relief camps, providing shelter to approximately 1.15 lakh displaced people.
Rescue operations by the Army, NDRF, and SDRF are ongoing, although about 80,000 people remain stranded in remote areas. The floods have also caused extensive damage to infrastructure and significant losses to livestock.
