⁣A trip to Goa isn’t complete without delving into its past - the 450 year long Portuguese colonial era - that heavily influenced Goan culture, cuisine and architecture.⠀

The best way to see the influence of Portuguese architecture in Goa, is by taking a guided walk through Fontainhas, the Latin Quarter in Panjim, situated at the foot of the Altinho hills.⠀
⠀co.in offers such immersive walking tours in this area while narrating its past.⠀

The 18th and 19th century houses along the narrow winding streets are painted in yellow, green and blue; balconies fronted by wrought iron railings; oyster shell windows; and red tiled roofs with statues of a rooster or a soldier on top will transport you back in time.⠀

⁣Imagine exploring Goa from a different lens — from its waters — and the thing that first springs to mind are boats packed full of rowdy tourists playing obnoxiously loud music.⠀

While this cliché exists for a reason, Goa is slowly transforming from a destination for the stereotypical mass tourists to one that attracts also the conscious traveller.⠀

Catering to this emerging responsible tourism market is ⠀

Offering boat rides with a difference, their Marine BioDiversity Experience offers a chance to enjoy the Goan waters — backwaters, mangroves, the Arabian Sea and some of its dolphins if you are lucky.⠀

It begins with a lovely breakfast accompanied by a presentation with all kinds of engaging facts about Goa’s coastline and its marine life with a focus on its humpback dolphins.⠀

The entire experience from breakfast to boat ride is exceptionally well planned. They provide everything starting from sea sickness pills for comfort, life jackets for safety and water / juices for hydration. It ends with a sweet surprise of cooling watermelon slices and a take away gift.⠀

⁣Goa’s culturally rich community is well represented by its culinary diversity — where authentic European cuisine is equally as popular as regional coastal fare.⠀

Known and frequented more so by locals, the casual poolside restaurant is a good one of the many French food options.⠀

Owned and managed jointly by two Frenchmen, Charles Tessedre and Samuel Ziza along with his wife / model Carol Garcia.⠀

The menu here is short and simple and varies depending on the French chef’s inspiration and availability of fresh produce.⠀

The pièce de résistance however is the enchanted garden ambience with stunningly tall trees and an equally striking long pool.⠀

So you can end your meal with a shot of espresso and end your afternoon with a dip in the pool.⠀
