If you notice Lord Hanuman idol in temples, you will see that he is completely smeared in Vermilion or Sindoor. There is an interesting story to Hanuman jis love for sindoor that he applies all over his body.

One day Sita mata was applying the vermilion in the parting of her hair. Curiously Hanuman ji asked Maa Sita, what the red powder that she was wearing. Maa Sita replied “This is sindoor. Sindoor makes Lord Rama happy and would bless him with longer and prosperous life.”

Hanuman Ji scratched His chin and thought and thought. He realised that Maa Sita did it because she loved Lord Rama and showed it by putting sindoor in Her hair.

“I love Rama too, And I’m going to prove it! Well if Sita Maa can put sindoor in Her hair to show Her love, why can’t I show my love too!”

He took the sindoor and smeared his whole body with it. When He entered Maa Sitas room, He was completely red. It looked as though He had taken a bath in the sindoor powder!

Maa Sita looked at Him in surprise and asked Him why he had covered himself in sindoor. With a smile Hanuman Ji said, Maa you are a Devi. By putting a little sindoor in your hair, you can make Lord Rama happy and His life longer. But I am only His servant, His dasa, so I will have to do more than that. And that is why I had to cover my whole body with sindoor.”

Thus, Lord Rama gave a boon to all his devotees, that those who apply sindoor to Hanuman Ji and observe his worship/ puja with sindoor would be blessed with happiness and prosperity!”

It forms a municipal corporation with Faizabad. Ayodhya, also known as Saket, is an ancient city of India, is the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ram and setting of the great epic Ramayana. It is adjacent to Faizabad city in the central region of Uttar Pradesh. Ayodhya used to be the capital of the ancient Kosala Kingdom. It has an average elevation of 93 meters (305 feet). Owing to the belief as to the birthplace of Bhagwan Shri Ram, Ayodhya (Awadhpuri) has been regarded as the first one of the seven most important pilgrimage sites (Mokshdayini Sapt Puris) for Hindus.
