Is this legal? And if not, does anyone have the code reference?

An apprentice coworker has been landing grounds like this, and I’m trying to figure out whether this is still considered legal/acceptable or if it needs to be corrected.

I’d appreciate any input, especially with code references if possible. ⚡

Inspection is coming up this week. Is there anything I’m missing besides bonding the ground in the disconnect and connecting the two ground bars in the main panel?

This is a 200-amp service.

I’d appreciate any feedback or anything obvious I should double-check before inspection. Thanks in advance! ⚡

Can I get some advice? Clearly a rookie here and definitely not an electrician. 😅

I’m just trying to change my regular switch to a smart switch, but the smart switch needs a neutral wire.

The neutral wire I’m seeing appears to be three wires twisted together under the top wire nut. Is it okay to connect the smart switch to that group? Do I leave all three together and add the switch neutral with them, or should I separate them, use one, and cap the others?

I’d really appreciate any help from the professionals before I mess with anything further. Thanks in advance! ⚡

Hey electricians — my house was built sometime in the 1950s, and I was planning to refinish the floors until I started reading horror stories about old houses and outlets not being properly grounded. 😅

I was about ready to give up and call a contractor when I realized there were no three-prong outlets in the room I’m working on… or so I thought. Once I moved the treadmill, I found one hiding behind it.

I plugged the sander in, but I haven’t turned it on yet. My question is: does the green light on the plug actually indicate anything about the outlet/grounding, or is it just there as a cosmetic feature to make the plug easier to find in darker areas?

I know it may be a silly question, but I’m genuinely curious.

I’ll probably still go out and get an outlet tester or voltage tester either way. Any advice is appreciated! ⚡

**Prong stuck in outlet — how do I safely remove it?**

A prong broke off inside one of my outlets, and I’m trying to figure out the safest way to deal with it without electrocuting myself.

I live in an apartment, so I don’t have easy access to turn off the breaker. Is there any safe way to remove it myself, or should I contact maintenance/the landlord instead?

I was wondering if turning off the outlet, if possible, and using rubber-handled pliers would be enough, but I don’t want to do anything dangerous.

Any advice would be appreciated. ⚡

**Can I wire a GFCI here?**

First-time homeowner noob here, so please tell me if I’m missing anything. 😅

This is what I found behind a blank outlet cover in my kitchen pantry. There’s also a blank two-switch plate nearby. I turned off the circuit and found that this box is not hot, while the wires at the switch are still hot.

I was hoping to install a GFCI outlet here so I can have power in the pantry. I’ve replaced outlets and switches before, but I’ve never started with just capped/blank wires like this.

Am I thinking about this correctly? Would I need to separate the wires to identify line vs. load, pigtail the ground, and then connect everything to the correct terminals on the GFCI?

I’d appreciate any advice before I touch anything further. ⚡

Is there ever a legitimate reason to install an outlet upside down?

The previous homeowners installed multiple outlets upside down in my new house — enough that I’m starting to wonder if it was intentional rather than a mistake.

But if it was intentional… why? Is there a practical or code-related reason for doing this, or is it just a personal preference/odd choice?

I’d appreciate any insight because now I’m genuinely curious. ⚡

Had a traumatic experience last week and almost walked off the job.

It started as a completely normal day. I left for lunch, came back, and… well, let’s just say I was not emotionally prepared for what I found. 😅

I stood there for a minute questioning my career choices, my patience, and possibly humanity as a whole.

Has anyone else ever come back from lunch and immediately wanted to clock back out?

What is this called?

I was trying to replace the faceplates on all of the outlets and came across this one, which is apparently more than just a regular faceplate.

I’m fairly confident I can rewire a new one if needed, but I’m not sure what the exact name of this part is.

Can anyone help identify it? ⚡

I hired a contractor to remodel my master bathroom, and I’m wondering if this looks okay. 😬

I’m not an expert, so I’d really appreciate honest opinions from people who know what they’re looking at. Is this normal/acceptable work, or is it something I should be concerned about before the project goes any further?

Any advice is appreciated!
