PDF holds massive convention in Khan Sahib, raises key issues including delay in statehood restoration, reservation policy

Says LG’s assurance on lifting tourism ban on Doodpatri, Yousmarg and Tasamaadan still pending

Despite official claims, farmers & orchardists await relief packages

Khan Sahib, Budgam, July 20: The People’s Democratic Front (PDF) held a grand party convention in Khan Sahib, Budgam, under the leadership of PDF President and former Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen. The event witnessed the participation of thousands of enthusiastic workers and supporters from across the region.

During the convention, the party passed several key resolutions addressing the pressing concerns of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The gathering echoed growing frustration over the delay in the restoration of J&K's statehood, a promise publicly made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. The party leadership stated that if this promise continues to remain unfulfilled, it will deepen the disillusionment among the people.

"People are facing mounting difficulties. It would be in the best interest of the region if the Government of India fulfills its commitment to restoring statehood without further delay," the resolution stated.

The party also raised serious concerns over ambiguity in the reservation policy, urging the government to clarify its stance immediately. “Educated youth are suffering as job vacancies are announced but many are unable to apply due to policy uncertainty,” the leadership noted.

Addressing the recent extreme weather events that severely impacted farmers and orchardists across Kashmir, the PDF expressed disappointment over the non-fulfilment of relief promises. Despite widespread crop and property damage due to hailstorms and gusty winds, the government has not announced any concrete compensation package so far.

"The government must fulfil its promises before the onset of winter to provide timely relief to the affected farming community, especially the poor," the party demanded.

The convention also reviewed the performance of the current administration, now in power for over ten months, stating that its impact on the ground remains negligible. "There have been no visible improvements in addressing public grievances such as poverty, unemployment, and infrastructure. The government has failed to deliver," the leadership asserted.

Lastly, the PDF reiterated its expectation that the ban on tourism activities in Budgam’s key destinations including Doodhpathri, Yousmarg, and Tosamaidan will be lifted soon. The demand follows a recent meeting between a PDF delegation and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, during which positive assurances were given.

“We expect that the LG will honour his commitment to reopening these vital tourist destinations which are crucial for the local economy,” the party concluded.

The convention was also graced by the presence of PDF office bearers and senior party workers, including Showkat Ahmad Raina, Mushtaq Shahmeem, General Secretary Dr. Nasir Paul, and others.

The convention ended with a renewed pledge to stand by the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to intensify its efforts to ensure justice, development, and dignity for all.
