*Crackdown on Illegal Mining: 02 FIRs Registered, 21 Vehicles Seized During the Week*

Budgam, April 22, 2026:

Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Budgam Police have intensified enforcement actions across the district during the current week.

As part of this drive, a total of 02 FIRs have been registered at Police Stations Charar-i-Sharief and Chadoora. Moreover, 21 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals have been seized.

The seized vehicles include 14 tippers, 06 tractors, and 01 JCB, which were impounded from various areas of the district, including Humhama, Charar-i-Sharief, Pakherpora, Waterhail, Beerwah, and Gariend Kalan Soibugh. In addition to legal action, fines amounting to thousands of rupees have also been imposed on the violators by the Department of Geology and Mining.

Budgam Police have urged the general public to cooperate by reporting instances of illegal mining. Emphasizing the importance of community participation, it was reiterated that such collective efforts are crucial in effectively curbing this menace.

Budgam Police reaffirm their commitment to safeguarding natural resources, ensuring adherence to lawful mining practices, and preserving the ecological balance of the district.

SSP Budgam Issues Advisory on destruction of Poppy Plants*

Budgam, April 22, 2026:

The Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam, Shri Hariprasad K K (IPS), has issued a public advisory urging all residents to voluntarily destroy poppy plants growing in private fields, orchards, or adjoining areas if any within 24 hours.

The SSP emphasized that illegal cultivation or possession of poppy is a punishable offence under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He warned that strict legal action shall be initiated against violators found indulging in such unlawful activities after the stipulated period.

He further appealed to religious leaders, including imams of mosques, to actively disseminate this message among the public and encourage compliance, thereby contributing towards the collective goal of a drug-free society.

Budgam Police reiterated its firm commitment to curbing the menace of drug abuse and illegal narcotics cultivation. The general public has been urged to extend full cooperation and promptly report any instances of illegal cultivation to the nearest police establishment.

Budgam Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Contraband Substance Recovered*

Budgam, April 20, 2026:

Continuing its sustained efforts under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Budgam Police have apprehended a drug peddler in the Chadoora area of district Budgam and recovered a charas-like contraband substance from his possession.

The operation was carried out by the police party of Police Station Chadoora near New Bus Stand Chadoora. The suspect is identified as Ishfaq Ahmad Dandroo S/o Mohammad Shaban Dandroo R/o Nowhar Chadoora. During personal search, approximately 69 grams of charas-like substance, concealed in corn husks, was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, FIR No. 45/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and further investigation has been taken up.

Budgam police urges public to join hands in its war against drugs. Any relevant information regarding drug supply in the area may immediately be shared with the local Police Station for timely action.
