Arrives in Bagdogra
A giant name in world football arrived in North Bengal today. Brazilian legend and World Cup-winning captain Cafu landed at Bagdogra Airport, after which he left by road directly for Lebong in Darjeeling.
Yes, we are talking about Marcos Evangelista de Morais, popularly known as ‘ ’, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Known for his incredible pace, solid defending and attacking runs down the right flank, Cafu was part of Brazil’s two FIFA World Cup-winning squads. In 2002, Brazil lifted the FIFA World Cup trophy under his captaincy.
Cafu’s visit to is being considered particularly special. Today, September 6, at 1 PM, a grand programme is scheduled to be held at Gorkha Stadium in Lebong, Darjeeling. The Vision Unveiling Ceremony of Sidra Hills Sports & Wellness Resort is set to take place there. According to the organisers, the project is proposed to be developed as India’s first Hill Sports and Wellness Resort.
Several ministers from the state government are also expected to attend the event. For football fans, another major highlight will be the official launch of North Bengal Fighters FC and Darjeeling Warriors FC.
