Have you heard about the astonishing orange shark discovery? Scientists are amazed by this nurse shark caught (and safely released) near Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷
This shark's vibrant color is due to a rare double-whammy of genetic conditions:
1. Xanthism (or Xanthochromism): This is the main reason for its intense yellow-orange skin, as it increases yellow pigments and reduces darker ones.
2. It also showed signs of Albinism (like its white eyes).
This is the first scientifically documented case of full xanthism in a nurse shark! It's a miracle it survived to an adult size, as its bright color makes camouflage much harder. A true one-of-a-kind survivor in the ocean!
What a fascinating look at the diversity of marine life! 👇
