A film is remembered not only for its visuals, but for the truth of its performances.
This workshop is designed to help directors develop the language, sensitivity, and practical tools required to direct actors with confidence and clarity.
Many of us know exactly what we want to see on screen yet struggle to get it from the actors. We fall into over-explaining, giving line readings, or offering vague notes like “be more emotional” or “make it different.” Directing is not therapy. As a filmmaker, your job is not to push actors into emotional spaces. Your responsibility is to help the actor deliver the clearest, most truthful version of that character as you see it. This workshop explores why every director should understand acting, not to become an actor, but to become a better storyteller.
This workshop combines theory with hands-on practice, scene work, rehearsals, and live direction exercises. Participants will not only understand how actors think and prepare, but also learn how to build a collaborative process that results in truthful, nuanced performances.
Because directing actors is not about controlling performances, it’s about creating the conditions in which truthful performances can emerge.
