Sonam Wangchuk is the founder of SECMOL (Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh), an NGO that has revolutionized alternative education in Ladakh since 1988. SECMOL’s solar-powered campus teaches students through hands-on learning, scientific experiments, and real-life skills, empowering even those who were considered “failures” in conventional schools. Despite recent scrutiny and cancellation of their FCRA licence after the Ladakh protests, SECMOL remains a powerful symbol of eco-friendly innovation and student empowerment in the region.

Sonam Wangchuk, the brain behind the Ice Stupa innovation, is currently imprisoned under the National Security Act after protests demanding Ladakh’s statehood turned violent in late September 2025. His wife has taken the legal fight to the Supreme Court, which will next hear his case on October 14, with Wangchuk held in Jodhpur jail as Ladakh remains tense under curfew and internet shutdowns. Despite these challenges, the Ice Stupa technology continues to transform farming in Ladakh, automating water supply for desperately needed irrigation and inspiring local and global recognition for sustainable solutions. Wangchuk’s innovations—like solar-powered tents for the army and eco-friendly artificial glaciers—show how true heroes are shaping the future from India’s mountains, not just its labs.

These hidden charges, often disguised with vague names like “offer handling fee,” “payment handling fee,” and “protect promise fee,” have sparked widespread consumer complaints and social media outrage. Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed that strict action will be taken against platforms violating consumer rights to ensure transparency and fairness in the booming online retail market. Consumers are advised to carefully check their bills for any hidden fees and report suspicious charges through official complaint channels.

Microsoft recently suspended and then restored its services to Nayara Energy, an Indian oil refiner, after EU sanctions linked to Russian oil trade caused a major disruption in July 2025. This incident exposed the risk of depending on foreign tech providers, leading Indian leaders to push for rapid adoption of swadeshi (indigenous) digital alternatives like Maya OS, Zoho Workplace, and Indian messaging apps. The Union IT Minister, along with other top officials, has publicly backed Indian-made apps and even showcased government work done using Zoho products instead of Microsoft or Google solutions. With tensions rising over global sanctions and growing calls for digital self-reliance, more Indians—including government bodies and private users—are encouraged to use safe, user-friendly Indian tech options for greater digital privacy and independence.

Don’t Buy 9 Carat Gold ! 😳

Gold prices have crossed ₹10,000 per gram in India, pushing many buyers towards so-called “cheap” gold—mainly 9 carat (9K) gold, which contains only 37.5% pure gold mixed with other metals like silver and zinc. Starting July 2025, the Indian government has made BIS hallmarking mandatory for 9K gold to ensure purity and transparency, but it’s still considered very low value in global markets—countries like the UK and France don’t even recognize 9K gold as real gold, giving it almost zero resale value. Industry experts warn that while 9K is affordable, its resale and investment value is extremely low, and buyers often get scammed thinking they’re getting a gold bargain. For safe investment and lasting value, always choose 22K or 24K gold—don’t fall for the 9K trap just because it seems like a deal.
