Singapore, Thailand Sign Pact to Deepen Social Sector Cooperation
Singapore and Thailand are deepening bilateral cooperation through a renewed strategic partnership that places social development alongside emerging economic and technology priorities. The agreement comes as both countries seek to strengthen people-to-people ties and build greater resilience through coordinated action across social, digital, energy, and security sectors.
This article explores the Memorandum of Understanding on social sector development signed during the Singapore-Thailand Leaders’ Retreat in Bangkok on September 2. The agreement promotes cooperation through personnel exchanges, knowledge and research sharing, institutional visits, workshops, and training, with a focus on strengthening social development and protection policies.
The broader partnership also identifies AI, green and digital economies, energy resilience, food security, connectivity, and transnational crime as key areas for collaboration. Both countries plan to expand practical AI cooperation across sectors such as manufacturing, healthcare, and tourism, while strengthening digital connectivity and financial technology links. Their successive ASEAN chairmanships in 2027 and 2028 are also expected to provide an opportunity to advance regional integration and shared priorities.
A timely read for manufacturing leaders, policymakers, technology professionals, social-sector organisations, and business stakeholders tracking Singapore-Thailand relations, ASEAN cooperation, digital transformation, and regional economic and social development.
