Fish fingers, also known as fish sticks, are a processed food made from white fish (such as cod, haddock, or po***ck) that has been battered or breaded and then deep-fried or baked. They are often served as a snack or part of a meal.
*Recipe:*
*Ingredients:*
- 4 white fish fillets (cod, haddock, or po***ck)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs, beaten
- Vegetable oil for frying
*Instructions:*
1. Cut the fish fillets into finger-shaped strips.
2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
3. Dip each fish strip into the flour mixture, then the beaten eggs, and finally the panko breadcrumbs.
4. Heat about 1/2 inch (1 cm) of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
5. Fry the fish fingers until golden brown and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes per side.
6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
*Baked Version:*
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. Prepare the fish fingers as above, but instead of frying, place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
3. Drizzle with a little oil and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until cooked through and golden brown.
*Serve with:*
- Tartar sauce
- Lemon wedges
- Coleslaw
- Baked beans
- Chips (fries)
*Tips:*
- Use fresh and sustainable fish for the best flavor and texture.
- Experiment with different seasonings and coatings, such as lemon pepper or chili powder.
- Fish fingers can be frozen before frying or baking for later use.
