Micro Hopes- China Fallen
5th February, on the instance of Chinese New Year, a part of Kolkata was surprisingly transformed. As we entered China Town, Tangra, we were greeted with fairy lights and Chinese lanterns. It felt like stepping into some other country. Festive scarlet decors adorned the homes, shops and the streets. Being associated with wealth and good fortune, red decorations are hung to ward off Nian – a lion-like monster that is afraid of the colour red, according to Lunar New Year mythology.

A Village of Humming Artisans
: Far away from the city borders, tucked away right in middle of open fields lies a village called Naya. It houses more than 250 artisans or Chitrakars, who indulge in an artform called Pata chitra, a narrative scroll painting. They paint on scrolls using colours derived from nature. Later they would unroll the scroll, page by page and sing a narrative song, paater gaan. I met many artisans who have received "President's Award", and travelled all over the world. Yet they live in an utter simplicity. After their art form faded away took over the village, and it is an Unesco World Heritage Sites

Micro Hopes- The last of the Jews of Kolkata
Magen David Synagogue, Kolkata. Meet Benjamin Ashkenazy ,the youngest member of the Jewish Community in Kolkata. Kolkata, once a busy crossroads of different cultures, had a thriving Jewish Community; Today only 15-20 members remain.
Benjamin says, "Jewish people here have migrated to other countries. Its a dream for me to go back to Israel, because it's an instant feeling, it feels like home. But I also do like to come back here to continue the Jewish community in Kolkata. We are hoping for people to come in from all over the world, to join us and help us to thrive again"

The Hostel of Death, Varanasi
On google there is one place that wont pop up in your search results. Its Mukti Bhavan, the guest house for the dying. Varanasi is the city where people come to die in order to attain Moksha or Salvation. Places like Mukti Bhavan (established in 1908) were set up to accommodate the dying and to assist the families in their rituals for the death preparations.
There are 10 rooms where the dying family checks in and stays for weeks, once the person passes away they check out. Soon to be occupied by a new family.
Here we see a person, paralyzed, in his last stages. And his daughter in laws reading Ramayana, an Indian holy text. I came to varanasi on an assignment to explore life and death.

An Ode to my Past Valentine
"I have waited for 6 years to share this story with my mother. When I was 16, I was in love with a grown man. I remember vividly, that afternoon he had called me to his place. It was a cosy apartment. But promptly he grabbed me and started to undo his pants. Completely oblivious to sexuality like another school goer, I told him it was making me uncomfortable.
He said, "You feeling uncomfortable is arousing me." I recall feeling acutely aware of the utter helplessness that is associated with "r**e"
Today he will be fairly old. The incident bled the colours from life for a while. I have embodied different characters, strolled on the empty streets, and stood up to my confidence R**e culture renders you to be voiceless, and yes, even your partner can sexually abuse you. But your voice can emancipate you from the patriarchal strands, that we are conditioned to. A victim isn't a victim whole life, I have changed. I have learnt to raise my voice flamboyant enough to strike fear in my oppressors." - Mou

From spraying disinfectants to using dummy police mannequins - Bangalore is prepping up for the lockdown extension ( April 3.0 lockdown ).

Speaking to the police personnel, they say, they are working in three shifts (6 AM, 3 PM and 12 AM)
The lockdown violations have decreased in the city after April 14. In a surprising development, earlier most of the violations were done by the 30+ age group.

Police have installed dummy mannequins in police uniforms in several parts of the city. "Seeing the dummies, most people turn and go away, we don't need to chase them. Working tirelessly it's essential we save our energies," said an official laughing his lungs out.

"We have completely sealed off containment zones, only essential services are allowed. We are stopping the rest and making them go back. Sadly some senior citizens are regularly going out on morning walks. Sometimes without masks, if we try to inform them, they snap back at us," he added.

Researchers of China have discovered a new H1N1 swine flu virus that can possibly lead as pandemic, though there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission yet says the published journal, PNAS.
Researchers have stated the new swine flu is a descendant of the H1N1 virus, with features alike to the European avian-like (EA) H1N1 virus that had led to the 2009 pandemic in Mexico (pdm09) and also it is a triple reassortant virus ( genetic sequence is a diverse combination of three of the eight segments of H1N1 RNA).

The last Shramik train, following the final call out for the migrant workers left Bangalore on Monday morning.
Around 1500 migrants assembled at the Bengaluru's Palace Ground to travel to their homeland. There was no social distancing maintained throughout the boarding of the train, and few didn't wear the mask.
"There wasn't a single police professional till we volunteers gave a call", says the source.
"Nothing is systematic here since the last few days. The police force is probably not assigned. Only when the situation is unmanageable they turn up," she added.
The Indian Railways started 'Shramik' special trains from May 1st to bring migrants back to their home. About 58,00,000 migrants have travelled to their home towns.
