“aap chronology samajhiye,” said Amit Shah in July 2021. Let’s try it here:
On March 6, the UP Police Circle Officer, Anuj Kumar Chaudhary, stirred controversy by stating that “Holi is celebrated once a year. Friday prayers (Jumma namaz) occur 52 times annually. Muslims uncomfortable with Holi festivities should remain indoors on that day to maintain communal harmony.”
On March 8, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath (read it again, “Chief Minister”) supported the remarks of the cop and suggested that Muslims feeling uncomfortable with Holi colors should stay indoors.
On March 9, Raghuraj Singh, an MLA and Minister of UP, aided the CO's statement by adding, “Muslim men wear tarpaulin hijabs during Holi to avoid being splashed with colors.”
On March 11, Khalid Hameed, the Chief M***i of Aligarh (UP), called for peaceful Holi celebrations and advised Muslims to exercise caution during the festival to maintain communal harmony. Additionally, adjustments have been made to prayer timings in Aligarh.
Today, I searched Google for any offensive statements made by Muslim organizations or sectarian politicians about Holi and found no reports in regional or national publications till now.
After understanding the chronology, I had these questions, and it would be nice if you had answers for them:
What is the basis for a responsible official (CO, UP Police) to make a statement and for elected representatives, including the CM, to support it?
Why was there a controversy over “Holi” in view of no tensions reported now or before?
Is it a deliberate attempt to drag Muslims to a conflict in the holy month of Ramadan while they observe fast?
Who stands up the peace and harmony in today’s India, and who doesn’t?
