What happens to people when they are violently displaced? Forced out of their home and ancestral village, buffeted by winds of hate, running for their lives, scattered like human debris in relief camps, never able to return. How do they rebuild new homes and new lives, with hearts unable to leave the old one behind? The Colour of My Home is about survivors of Muzaffarnagar, a town in north India, where targeted violence in 2013 forced over 60,000 people to flee their homes in fear. It is about rebuilding broken lives, the scars that hate and violence leave on the human soul.
Watch the Inaugural Film - ‘The Colour of My Home’ by Sanjay Barnela and Farha Naqvi on 19th October post inauguration ceremony for the film festival - ‘Aane Matthu Iruve : Story of a Republic’ (The Elephant and the Ant : Story of a republic) that starts at 4:30 PM at St. Joseph’s University Auditorium. The filmmaker Sanjay Barnela will be present at the film screening.
‘Aane Matthu Iruve : Story of a Republic’ is a film festival showcasing 15 films and is bringing together documentary films/alternative cinema that share stories and insights about people’s resistance to oppressive regimes, dehumanising socio-cultural practices and also positive stories of transformation and change. In collaboration with local educational institutions, organisations and networks this film festival is an attempt to initiate conversations through screening films revolving around broader issues related to women, youth and vulnerable communities like farmers, migration, displacement and sustainable livelihoods.
This is in collaboration with Pedestrian Pictures, St. Joseph's University, Bangalore and Gamana Mahila Samuha
