The Art Nouveau style of architecture is marked by intricate designs, flowing lines, and nature-inspired motifs. Belgium’s capital, Brussels, is dotted with distinctive facades adorned with ornate ironwork, stained glass windows, and decorative tiles. We look at some of the stunning Art Nouveau buildings in Brussels.
1. Tassel House: The founding manifesto of Art Nouveau, where curved lines and iron met stained glass for the first time.
2. Horta Museum: Victor Horta’s own home and studio, now a sanctuary of mosaics, glass, and timeless craftsmanship.
3. Maison Autrique: Horta’s very first masterpiece, a revolution in how a house could tell a story.
4. Solvay House: Horta’s most accomplished work, built with carte blanche and finished down to every last detail.
5. Cauchie House: A facade so ornate it was designed as a living advertisement for its artist owners’ genius.
