कार्तिक मास: हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार कार्तिक मास हिंदू वर्ष का आठवां महीना है। इसे अत्यंत पवित्र और धार्मिक महत्व वाला महीना माना जाता है। यह आमतौर पर अक्टूबर और नवंबर के बीच आता है। इस मास को विशेष रूप से भगवान विष्णु, भगवान शिव, देवी लक्ष्मी और तुलसी के पूजन के लिए सर्वोत्तम माना गया है।
इस दौरान की गई तपस्या, व्रत और स्नान को मोक्षप्रद माना गया है, क्योंकि कार्तिक मास में आस्था और श्रद्धा से किए गए कर्मों का फल कई गुना अधिक मिलता है। धार्मिक मान्यता है कि इस महीने में किए गए पुण्य कार्य व्यक्ति को जन्म-मरण के चक्र से मुक्त कराते हैं और उसे मोक्ष प्रदान करते हैं।
कार्तिक मास का धार्मिक महत्व
1. स्नान और दीपदान: कार्तिक मास में विशेष स्नान का महत्व है। लोग इस महीने में सूर्योदय से पहले पवित्र नदियों या तालाबों में स्नान करते हैं। मान्यता है कि इससे सारे पाप धुल जाते हैं। साथ ही दीपदान का भी विशेष महत्व है। माना जाता है कि कार्तिक में दिए जलाने से घर में सुख-समृद्धि आती है और पितरों की आत्मा को शांति मिलती है।
2. भगवान विष्णु और तुलसी पूजा: इस महीने में भगवान विष्णु के विभिन्न स्वरूपों की पूजा का विशेष महत्व है। कहा जाता है कि कार्तिक मास में श्री हरि विष्णु पृथ्वी पर विराजमान रहते हैं। तुलसी पूजन और तुलसी विवाह भी इसी महीने में किया जाता है, जो धार्मिक दृष्टिकोण से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है।
3. भगवान शिव का पूजन: कार्तिक मास में शिव पूजन का भी अत्यधिक महत्व है। विशेष रूप से प्रदोष व्रत, जो भगवान शिव को समर्पित होता है, इसी महीने में रखा जाता है। कहा जाता है कि इस व्रत को रखने से भगवान शिव प्रसन्न होकर अपने भक्तों को सभी इच्छाएं पूर्ण करने का आशीर्वाद देते हैं।
4. एकादशी व्रत: इस महीने की एकादशी को विशेष रूप से "देवउठनी एकादशी" के नाम से जाना जाता है। इस दिन भगवान विष्णु चार महीने की निद्रा के बाद जागते हैं। इसके साथ ही शुभ कार्यों की शुरुआत होती है और विवाह, यज्ञ आदि मांगलिक कार्य पुनः शुरू किए जाते हैं।
धार्मिक अनुष्ठान और गतिविधियां
दीपावली: कार्तिक मास में आने वाला दीपावली का पर्व सबसे बड़ा त्योहार माना जाता है। यह अंधकार से प्रकाश की ओर जाने का प्रतीक है।
गोवर्धन पूजा: दीपावली के अगले दिन गोवर्धन पूजा की जाती है। इसे भगवान कृष्ण द्वारा इंद्र देवता के क्रोध से गोकुलवासियों को बचाने की स्मृति में मनाया जाता है।
भाई दूज: इस दिन बहनें अपने भाइयों के लिए लंबी आयु और समृद्धि की कामना करती हैं।
कार्तिक मास के व्रत और नियम
इस महीने में मांसाहार, मद्यपान, और अन्य तामसिक भोजन से परहेज करना चाहिए।
रोज सुबह उठकर पवित्र जल में स्नान करें और भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करें।
यथासंभव एक समय भोजन करने का नियम रखा जाता है।
गायत्री मंत्र, विष्णु सहस्रनाम, और शिव चालीसा का पाठ करना भी अत्यंत फलदायक माना जाता है।
कार्तिक पूर्णिमा
कार्तिक मास का अंतिम दिन, जिसे कार्तिक पूर्णिमा कहते हैं, अत्यधिक महत्व का होता है। इस दिन गंगा स्नान, दान और उपवास करने का विशेष महत्व है। इस दिन को "देव दीपावली" भी कहा जाता है, जो कि वाराणसी में बड़े धूमधाम से मनाई जाती है। यह माना जाता है कि इस दिन पवित्र गंगा में स्नान करने से जन्म-जन्म के पापों से मुक्ति मिलती है।

Religious Significance of Kartik Month
1. Bathing and Lighting Lamps: Ritualistic bathing holds special importance in Kartik. People take holy baths in rivers or lakes before sunrise, as it is believed to cleanse all sins. Lighting lamps is also significant, symbolizing prosperity and peace for the souls of ancestors.
2. Worship of Lord Vishnu and the Tulsi Plant: The worship of various forms of Lord Vishnu is especially auspicious this month. It is said that Lord Vishnu resides on Earth during Kartik month. Worshiping the Tulsi plant and celebrating the symbolic wedding of Tulsi are of utmost religious importance.
3. Worship of Lord Shiva: Kartik month also emphasizes worship of Lord Shiva. The Pradosh fast, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is observed during this month. It is believed that by keeping this fast, devotees gain blessings from Lord Shiva for the fulfillment of their wishes.
4. Ekadashi Fasts: The Ekadashi of Kartik month is especially known as "Devuthani Ekadashi" or "Prabodhini Ekadashi," when Lord Vishnu is said to awaken after a four-month rest. This marks the resumption of auspicious activities like marriages and other sacred rituals.
Religious Rituals and Activities
Diwali: The festival of Diwali, one of the largest Hindu festivals, falls in this month. It signifies the triumph of light over darkness.
Govardhan Puja: Celebrated the day after Diwali, this festival commemorates Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Hill to protect the people of Gokul from the wrath of Lord Indra.
Bhai Dooj: On this day, sisters pray for the long life and prosperity of their brothers.
Fasts and Rules for Kartik Month
It is advised to refrain from consuming meat, alcohol, and other tamasic (dark or impure) foods.
Take a sacred bath each morning and worship Lord Vishnu.
Many observe a rule of eating only once a day.
Chanting the Gayatri Mantra, Vishnu Sahasranama, and Shiva Chalisa is considered highly beneficial.
Kartik Purnima
The last day of Kartik month, known as Kartik Purnima, holds great importance. Bathing in the Ganges, donating, and fasting on this day are considered very sacred. This day is also known as "Dev Deepavali," celebrated with grandeur in Varanasi. It is believed that a holy bath in the Ganges on this day frees one from the sins of multiple lifetimes.
