Duo of Humble Masale Dose & Banana Dose at , Gandhi Bazaar – Basavanagudi, Bengaluru!

The Masale Dose here is the definition of comfort food – thin, crisp edges, golden perfection, and a perfectly spiced potato filling that feels just like how a classic dose should be. No frills, no fuss, just authentic Basavanagudi charm.

But the real surprise? The Banana Dose (Balehannu Dose) – thick, slightly sweet, and fluffy with that unmistakable banana aroma. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea (iykyk 😉), but I loved every bite. The balance of banana, jaggery, and the dosa texture makes it feel like a sweet-meets-savoury South Indian pancake.

A little food history: Unlike the centuries-old masale dose, the banana dose doesn’t have deep temple roots but is believed to be a home-style creation from Karnataka – a way to use up overripe bananas in a wholesome breakfast. Some versions are instant (with wheat/rice flour and jaggery), while others are fermented with rice and fenugreek, giving them that slight tang. Either way, it’s a nostalgic dose innovation that celebrates abundance and no-waste cooking!

If you’re in Gandhi Bazaar, this is one duo you must try – one rooted in tradition, the other born from everyday kitchen creativity.

This place is pure nostalgia for me.
Back in my childhood days, whenever we travelled from our hometown to Bangalore, one of the most awaited things was a visit to our favourite restaurant — Priyadarshini in Majestic. Walking in today, I realized that the essence of this place hasn’t changed at all.

The high ceilings, the classic sweet and savoury counters, the neatly dressed staff in their uniforms, and above all, that warm personal touch — it’s almost like time has stood still. Our forever favourite here has always been the Ghee Masale Dose, a dish that carries so many memories on its crisp, golden edges.

Surprisingly, not many people talk about this gem anymore, which makes it even more special to us. What makes it even closer to my heart is that my better half shares the exact same memories here too — making it a place that beautifully ties our pasts together.
