An IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Chennai was urgently evacuated on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, after thick smoke was detected in the cockpit and cabin during taxiing. The incident occurred at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) as Chennai-bound flight 6E 6017, an Airbus A321 aircraft carrying more than 230 passengers and crew members, was preparing for departure. According to a statement issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the smoke became visible right after pushback when the taxi commenced. In response, the captain immediately halted the aircraft, and the cabin crew initiated a swift emergency evacuation using all available escape slides. Ground emergency services and fire trucks rushed to the tarmac to secure the scene while terrified passengers slid onto the runway. While the carrier confirmed that all individuals were safely moved back to the terminal, the DGCA reported that two passengers sustained minor injuries during the frantic rush to exit the plane.
