Author authority is an important factor for users: they care about the reputation and relevance of a piece’s author. But does it matter in Google site rankings?

Our answer: no—to a degree. Author authority doesn't have much to do with where your content ranks on Google; you can rank well without having a ton of authority, but you'll need other signals to help you along. For example, having backlinks from relevant sites will give your website more credibility when it comes to ranking higher in search engines like Google or Bing (Microsoft). Yes, author authority matters in site rankings. Google has been using this factor for some time now, but it’s still not clear how much weight it carries. But it's always best to make sure that a piece by a credible person is more valuable than a newbie just out of college.

Some more helpful hints on link building for you.

-Don't use automated link building tools like Scrapebox or GSA. They're just going to get you in trouble. Use manual methods instead.

-Try writing an article that offers value and then reaching out to bloggers who might be interested in publishing it on their site (with a link back). This is a great way to build links without being seen as spammy or overly promotional!

- Don't have too many outbound links on one page. Google wants to see that the majority of pages on your site are about the same topic as each other—if they're not, then it looks like you're trying to game the system by putting links everywhere with no real purpose.

- Don't use too many exact match anchor text links! Those are super risky because they could turn into spammy links pretty quickly if Google thinks you're trying too hard to manipulate its algorithm.

-Don't use sneaky tactics like cloaking or doorway pages (these are pages that are designed solely for the purpose of getting more traffic/links)

-Post on Reddit and Quora, but be careful not to overdo it. You don't want to be seen as spammy!

Here are some dos and don'ts on link building, so that they won’t get flagged as spammy by Google’s algorithms!

-Don't go overboard with guest posting. If you're doing guest posts on multiple sites, make sure they are different enough that they don't look like they're all coming from the same source.

-Keep track of where your links are going and ensure that they're relevant to what you're writing about (or at least related to the topic).

-Don't just send links out randomly without any context for why someone would be interested in clicking through. Make sure you're providing value and relevance when you do outreach so people will want to follow through.

-Don't buy links (or ask other people to buy them for you)

-Don't create links that have nothing to do with the content on your page (like including links in blog posts for no reason other than SEO)
