As a student of Alma Media School , I got the opportunity to visit Asianet Suvarna News channel. It is one of the popular news channels in Karnataka that offers live updates on finance, entertainment, politics, regional, and worldwide news.
I was indeed fascinated by the infrastructure of the newsroom. They had different departments for each, like MCR, recording room, production room, news live , etc. We also had an interaction session with the head of the channel. She explained to us how the channel works, the agenda to keep in mind while working in the news channel, and the pros and cons of the newsroom.
Then, we also interacted with the video editing head. She spoke about the demand for video editors, the importance of visuals to grab audience attention. Soon after this, I came across my favorite room, that is the live shooting room. We got a chance to watch it by standing aside. Anchor Swetha was on the set, providing live updates. I really loved her boldness, confidence, vocal, and the way she delivers news to the audience. She was so inspiring. I wish I could be there one day.
The head of the newsroom, Ms. MC Shobha, instructed us to develop the habit of reading newspapers, one English and one Kannada, and to develop the habit of writing. She also told us about how news channels hire candidates and the skills required to become a journalist.
Finally, we met Ajith Hanamakkanavar, the Editor-in-Chief of the Suvarna channel. He taught us how news plays a prominent role in day-to-day life, how quickly journalists have to contribute their work. Overall, I understood how the newsroom functions. It's not easy, hard work is the key quality to become a journalist. It is the combination of teamwork and their dedication to their work.
