Have you seen Ganesha with a human face? This is Adi Vinayaka, also called Nara-mukha Vinayaka. Adi means first. This is the form of God Ganesha before He received the elephant head.
As told in the Puranas, Mata Parvati created a child to guard her. When God Shiva returned, the child stopped Him, and in anger Shiva cut off the child’s head. Later, to calm Goddess Parvati, He gave the child an elephant head. Adi Vinayaka reminds us of that original human-faced form.
You can see this form at the Adhi Vinayakar Temple at Thilatharpanapuri, near Koothanur in Tamil Nadu. Devotees come mainly for Pitru Karmas, especially Tila Tarpana. Another human-faced Ganesha is at the Nandrudayan Vinayaka Temple in Tiruchirappalli. It is believed that Sri Rama Bhagawan bathed in the nearby Arasalar River and performed Pitru Tarpanam here.
Praying here is believed to bring peace at home and harmony in relationships. Parents also seek blessings for children’s memory and studies. Tradition says Agastya Muni comes here in an invisible form and worships Adi Vinayaka on every Sankatahara Chaturthi.
If you are a devotee of Ganesha Bhagawan, you should visit this temple. Jai Shree Ganesha. 🕉️🙏❤️
