โจ I stumbled upon this quiet Tibetan settlement completely by accident. ๐ฒ๐
Just outside the gates of the Nagarhole forest lies Rabgaeling, a beautiful, peaceful village that most travelers drive right past. I had initially set out to find an old landmark restaurant, only to discover it had closed down.
But as it often happens on the road, an unexpected change of plans led to a wonderful adventure into the heart of this community and its food. It took two separate drives to piece the whole story together! ๐บ๏ธ
Our first detour led us to Dhasa Karma, a rustic cafรฉ overlooking the village temple run by recent migrants from Dharamshala, serving up incredibly comforting bowls of thukpa and fresh chowmein. ๐
But the village had an even bigger surprise waiting for us. To find it, we had to return for a second drive strictly for lunch. We ended up at a humble Tibetan home where a wonderful couple has been quietly serving a slice of their culture to locals for nearly three decades. Operating right out of their own kitchen, they prepare fresh meat momos entirely to order, steaming them over a traditional wood fire until the rich juices completely soak into the delicate casing. ๐ชต๐ฅ
Join us on this spontaneous journey as we pull up a chair, talk with the locals, and taste some of the most authentic, wood-fired flavors on the edge of the forest.
