Dyslexia is not a 'disability'. It is not a 'disease'. The Prime Minister of India has to be thanked for inadvertently putting the spotlight on the lack of awareness among India's people, both young and old, commoners and leaders, about what dyslexia really is. It's a learning 'difference' that has nothing to do with 'intelligence'. Albert Einstein was dyslexic. Need we say more?

During a recent interaction with students, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi threw a jibe at his rival, Rahul Gandhi, suggesting he may be a “40-50 year old” dyslexic child. The youngsters laughed and the country began debating if it needs to teach itself how to be more sensitive towards le...

Tensions & jets are flying fast across the LOC. Wing Commander is in Pakistan's custody. mandate his humane treatment & safe return. It's time for India & Pakistan to pause & reflect if they really want an all-out war or If the tit-for-tat continues, the point of no return will soon be crossed. That war won't be fought on social media or TV news channels.

India says Pakistan Air Force sent its jets over to the Indian side of LoC. India foiled the attack but lost a jet. India has now confirmed that one of its pilots is missing in action. A photograph showing the bloodied but fearless face of Abhinandan, the captured Indian pilot, is trending on social...

Green Book was the surprise winner of Best Picture, beating Netflix-produced Roma. Rami Malek completed his fairy-tale rise to the top with a Best Actor trophy. The hostless Oscars ceremony was in a rush to keep the proceedings timely, so much so that the organizers even muted the mic when winners spoke more than necessary. An India-based documentary on menstruation won the Oscar for Best Short.

Green Book won the Best Picture, which was widely expected to go to Netflix-produced Roma. The four awards for Bohemian Rhapsody include Best Actor for Rami Malek. An India-based documentary on menstruation won the Best Short. Black Panther won three Oscars. Mahershala Ali won his second best suppor...

Japan's space agency, JAXA, has landed and evicted a space probe on Ryugu, an asteroid, to collect a sample that would help us better understand the material that created the solar system. This fascinating space feat will also revive private interest in asteroid mining. There is more gold out there in the space than remains on earth. The most profitable product of mining in space would be the one we take lightly on earth. Water.

Hayabusa2, a Japanese space probe, has touched down on the asteroid Ryugu 300 million km from Earth as it attempts a bold manoeuvre to collect samples and bring them back for scientific analysis. It is expected to return to Earth with the rocky samples in 2020. Ryugu may contain organic matter that....

Rahul Gandhi used the advantage of being in the Opposition to make pretty promises about the future. The government of Narendra Modi has now exercised the undue advantage of having state resources at its command to implement before elections what the Congress promised to do after. The Budget has been presented, the josh is back, but how long can the BJP's perceived lead last?

The interim budget is called ‘vote on account’, but it might as well be called account for vote. The government of India, with an eye on the upcoming elections, has announced massive tax benefits for the middle class, a new income support scheme for poor farmers and a huge pension scheme for wor...

This is the year - his 150th - when everybody will claim to like Gandhi, even those who can't practice for an hour what the great soul did all his life. Gandhi died today. But Gandhi was, is, and will remain the answer to India's problems. They ignored him then. Then do so now. But he won then. And he will win again.

On this day, 71 years ago, 39-year-old Nathuram Vinayak Godse sprayed bullets into the frail mortal body of Mahatma Gandhi, the saint of non-violence and tolerance. Though Godse killed Gandhi’s body, the legacy and the ideology of the ‘half-naked fakir’ from India are immortal and remain relev...

Three new Bharat Ratnas, three old stories of simplicity, courage of conviction, loyalty, resilience, statesmanship and service to the motherland. Pranab Mukherjee is the Prime Minister India would have loved to have and the ex-President who lives like a citizen. Nanaji Deshmukh once walked away from political power to make India's villages great again. And Bhupen Hazarika, well, his music captures the soul of India and will forever remind us of the unfinished work that the Republic is.

Former president Pranab Mukherjee, social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and legendary singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika have been conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award. Deshmukh (1916–2010) was a founder member of the Janata Party and a lifelong RSS member who refused a minist...

Anjana was allegedly r***d and definitely murdered, and - either before or after her death - her breasts were cut off and her hand was removed. Then her head was chopped off too. Her body was found just some distance away from her house. Her parents, both weavers in Patwa Toli, Gaya, Bihar, complained to the police when she went missing. They were ignored. They demanded justice when she was found in three - or four - pieces. They were arrested as culprits. The police says the father, with his friend, got Anjana murdered and dismembered. He had to be a special kind of beast to do that to his daughter. Turns out he is not. No local agrees with the police theory of 'honor killing' and all the weavers of Patwa Toli have stopped work till real culprits are found. The weavers, ignored by the government and the so-called 'national media', have the faith and support of an alert social media. Candle marches have begun...to ensure justice is done.

As the pressing political matters keep India’s mainstream media distracted, one heinous crime conducted in Gaya, Bihar shouts for attention and justice. 16-year old Anjana was allegedly r***d and beheaded before her severed head was doused in acid. Even as her family demanded justice, the district...

India's economy is growing fast but is losing jobs faster than ever. The extent of unemployment is set to be the most debated topic in the upcoming elections, but the larger issue needs long-term solutions. The welfare state is crashing and a demographic disaster is playing out in the farms and on the streets.

Almost 11 million Indians lost their jobs during 2018, reports the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE). Vulnerable groups from the rural regions were the worst hit by job losses last year. India is losing jobs even as its economy is growing fast. The Opposition party has decided to make this...

We are ageing. The dream we once saw as a child seems more distant than ever. The universe lures us to mediocrity. So, shall we surrender, let life flow its course and click a few selfies on the way? Or shall we ride the white horse, adorn the rugged armor, draw our invincible sword, slay mighty enemies & save our kingdom?

He had grown up visualizing himself as the one who would one day pull out his sword and slay mighty enemies in the last stand to save his kingdom. Today, he is a middle-aged white-collared professional on course to retire a wretched old man and die of diabetes and regret. With no sword, no glory of....

Sabarimala started as a 'gender issue', and is now a low-hanging political fruit each party believes it can pluck. The BJP opposes women's entry in the holy shrine on religions grounds. The Congress, would you believe it, supports the BJP on the issue. The Leftist government is talking tough but acting soft. Shashi Tharoor just realized he has an election to win and put his liberalism on hold to change his stand on the matter, making it absolutely clear he stands for the traditions. The women are not united in their demand for access to Lord Ayappa. And the Supreme Court, ah the law of the land, had declared in Sep. 2018 that the women no longer need to fight for this.

As things stand, Sabarimala, the Hindu holy shrine that was historically closed to women of ‘menstruating age’, has been ‘defiled’ by two women. Rights groups and ‘Western media’ have proclaimed this as a victory of women’s march towards equality. Protests are being carried out on the ...
