Road Accident Leaves 2 Police Officers Dead

Srinagar, Aug 11, KNT: Two Police Sub-Inspectors (PSIs) of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) lost their lives in a road accident during late-night hours on the Taingan–Lasjan Bypass along NH-44.

Police sources said the vehicle they were travelling in met with a severe crash, resulting in fatal injuries to 2 officers on the spot while another officer Mastan Singh sustained injuries. The deceased police sub inspectors have been identified as Sachin Verma and Shubham.

Reports said the trio were on way to Jammu from Srinagar after performing Amarnath Pilgrim duty.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the mishap. [KNT]

Ramban District Taekwondo Championship 2025 Concludes Successfully in Banihal

Banihal, 27th July 2025:
The Two-Day Ramban District Taekwondo Championship 2025 was successfully organized on the 26th and 27th of July at Banihal by the Ramban District Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Association of Jammu and Kashmir, affiliated with India Taekwondo, and recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, World Taekwondo, Indian Olympic Association, and the Asian Taekwondo Council.

The championship witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 35 athletes, who showcased their skills, discipline, and sportsmanship across various categories. The event aimed at promoting martial arts culture and identifying talent at the grassroots level.

The opening ceremony was graced by Dr. Fareed Wani (MBBS) as the Chief Guest, accompanied by the Secretary of Ramban District Taekwondo Association, Mr. Mohsin Rafiq Wani.

In his address, Dr. Fareed Wani said:

"Taekwondo builds discipline, strength, and confidence in youth. I applaud all the participants and encourage them to stay dedicated to both fitness and personal growth."

The closing and medal distribution ceremony was held on the second day, with Mr. Munazar Ahmed Malik, President of Ramban District Taekwondo Association, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Arif Ahmed Giri and Mr. Aaqib Ahmed Giri as Guests of Honour.

In his remarks, Mr. Munazar Ahmed Malik stated:

"This championship highlighted the energy and talent of our youth. Every athlete here is a winner, and we will continue supporting such platforms to help them excel."

The technical team for the championship was led by Mr. Mohsin Rafiq Wani, who extended heartfelt thanks to all athletes, coaches, guests, volunteers, and supporters for their contributions in making the event a success. He also thanked the Taekwondo Association of Jammu and Kashmir for their continuous support and guidance, which played a vital role in the smooth ex*****on of the event. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to further promoting Taekwondo in the district

The Ramban District Taekwondo Championship 2025 served as a celebration of talent, unity, and the fighting spirit of young athletes, setting the stage for future state and national-level competitions.

J&K ACB traps and arrests Muzamil Salam, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan, Ramban for demanding and accepting bribe of ₹2500

Jammu & Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint alleging therein that the complainant applied for the correction of the name of his father that was entered wrong in the revenue records in the office of Tehsildar Ukhral. The Tehsildar directed Patwari Muzamil Salam of Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan for doing the needful. The concerned Patwari demanded ₹20,000 from the complainant for making the necessary changes however after negotiations the Patwari agreed to do the needful for ₹2500.

Since the complainant didn’t want to pay bribe, he approached ACB for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law. On receipt of a complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirms the demand of bribe by the public servant. Accordingly, case FIR No.03/2025 u/s 7 of PC Act 1988 (as amended in 2018) was registered in PS ACB Doda and investigation taken-up.

During the course of investigation, a trap team headed by Gazetted Rank Officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant Muzamil Salam S/o Salam Ud Din Shah R/o Kaskoot, Tehsil Banihal, District Ramban presently posted as Patwari, Patwar Halqa Pogal Paristan, District Ramban was caught red handed while demanding and accepting of bribe ₹2500 from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses.

The accused was arrested on spot by the ACB team after following the due procedure of law. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team.

Further investigation of the instant case is going on.
