Bankers take wife hostage for not paying loan installment

The incident of inhumane behavior by employees of a private bank in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh has become a topic of heated debate across the state. The case of a man forcibly taking his wife hostage for not paying the installment has become a hot topic. Big industrialists get away with taking loans worth crores of rupees, but this treatment of banks towards common people is drawing criticism from all sides.

The real incident is that Ravindra Verma lives with his wife in the limits of Poonch police station. He had taken a personal loan of Rs 40,000 from a private bank in Azad Nagar, Bamroli and was paying an installment of Rs 2,120 every month. In recent days, due to deteriorating financial condition, he could not pay some installments.

Last Monday, the bankers called Ravindra to the bank to discuss the EMI. When he reached there with his wife Pooja Verma, the bank staff acted unexpectedly. It is alleged that the bank staff forced Pooja inside and said that they will not leave your wife until you pay the entire outstanding amount. It was further said that "Go home and get the money, only then can you take your wife."

Ravindra pleaded that it was not possible to arrange the money immediately, but the bank staff did not listen to him. Finally, he called 112 and informed the police. The police took immediate action and got Pooja Verma freed from the clutches of the bank. Ravindra says that his wife was kept hostage for about four hours.

Another thing that has come to light from this incident is that Ravindra has paid eleven installments so far, but the bank staff has registered only 7 installments. The police are investigating the incident.

The public is demanding that strict action be taken against the inhumane behavior of bank employees and strict measures be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

On the other hand, people are taking extreme steps like su***de due to harassment by online loan apps. In this backdrop, the Tamil Nadu government has enacted a new law

which aims to protect the public from forced recovery by microfinance companies, lending agencies and loan apps. If anyone violates these regulations, he can be imprisoned for up to three years and fined up to Rs. 5 lakh. The public is demanding that such a law be implemented across the country.
