Open Letter to the Hon'ble Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari ji , Government of India

Subject: Urgent Demand for Widening and Upgradation of the Putakha–Baba Reshi Road to Boost Tourism and Public Connectivity in District Baramulla

Respected Sir,

I respectfully draw your attention to the urgent need for widening and strengthening the road stretch from Putakha to Baba Reshi in District Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir.

This road serves as a vital link not only for local residents but also for thousands of tourists and pilgrims visiting the revered Baba Reshi Shrine. Furthermore, it provides important connectivity to the world-famous tourist destination of Gulmarg, which attracts visitors from across India and around the globe throughout the year.

Gulmarg is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and internationally recognized tourist attractions, including Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, Apharwat Peak, Maharani Temple, St. Mary's Church, and the picturesque meadows that make Gulmarg a premier destination for skiing, adventure tourism, and nature lovers.

Despite its importance, the Putakha–Baba Reshi road remains narrow and congested, especially during peak tourist and pilgrimage seasons. The increasing flow of vehicles often leads to traffic jams, travel delays, and safety concerns for both residents and visitors.

The widening and modernization of this road would:

Improve connectivity to Baba Reshi and Gulmarg.

Boost tourism and pilgrimage activities in the region.

Enhance road safety and reduce traffic congestion.

Promote economic growth by supporting local businesses, hotels, transport operators, and tourism stakeholders.

Provide better transportation facilities for students, patients, farmers, and daily commuters.

Considering the strategic importance of this route for tourism and public welfare, I humbly request your esteemed office to sanction and prioritize the widening and upgradation of the Putakha–Baba Reshi road at the earliest.

This project will not only improve the quality of life for local residents but also strengthen Jammu & Kashmir's tourism infrastructure, contributing to the vision of sustainable development and economic prosperity.

I sincerely hope that this genuine public demand receives your kind attention and prompt action.

Yours faithfully,

Shahid Javeed Lone

Social Activist Shahid Javeed Lone has expressed serious concern over the poor condition of several government schools in the area especially Nowpora Jagir. He stated that many schools are facing issues such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of proper classrooms, damaged buildings, insufficient sanitation facilities, and shortage of essential educational resources.
