Slow Internet Speed Plagues Heewan Village: A Digital Struggle in the 21st Century
Heewan Narvaw, Baramulla β In a time when the world is advancing rapidly in digital connectivity, residents of Heewan village in district Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir continue to grapple with painfully slow internet, especially from major providers like Jio. Despite the promises of high-speed 4G and preparations for 5G in urban centers, rural areas like Heewan remain stuck in a digital blackout.
For students, professionals, and business owners, this lack of reliable connectivity is not just inconvenient β it is a major setback.
βWe have to walk to nearby areas just to download study materials or attend online classes,β says Ashiq Ahmad, a local college student. βThe Jio network either doesn't work or takes several minutes just to open a simple webpage.β
Residents report that even basic tasks like WhatsApp calls or YouTube browsing often fail during the day. While Jioβs advertisements continue to claim seamless connectivity, users in Heewan are experiencing a very different reality. In many households, mobile data is practically unusable during peak hours.
Local Businesses Affected
Small shopkeepers and service providers in the village also feel the burden. Online payments fail repeatedly, leaving both customers and sellers frustrated.
βWeβve shifted back to cash because UPI rarely works,β says Nayeem , who runs a local grocery store. βHow can we be part of βDigital Indiaβ if we donβt even get proper signals?β
No Response to Complaints
Multiple complaints to customer service seem to have made little impact. Residents say they have filed several grievances with Jio, but there has been no visible improvement. A few villagers even suggested petitioning the local administration to intervene and demand better services.
Conclusion
Heewanβs residents are not asking for luxuryβthey are asking for a basic necessity in todayβs world. As India marches toward a digital future, it is essential that rural areas are not left behind. The people of Heewan are calling for urgent attention from service providers like Jio to improve connectivity and bring true digital inclusion to the region. Jio
