Baramulla has lost a humble and kind-hearted soul. Tanveer Ahmad Najar, who met with an accident yesterday, succumbed to his injuries today at SKIMS.

He was a resident of near ZEO Office, Kanli Bagh.

May Almighty Allah grant the departed soul Jannatul Firdaus and give strength and patience to the bereaved family. Ameen.

Thousands of devotees from across the Valley gathered at the revered shrine of Hazrat Syed Janbaz Wali (RA) to observe his 608th Urs at Khanpora Baramulla

The annual observance witnessed the display of holy relics, known as Tubrookat, after each of the five daily prayers. Devotees of all age groups participated in the religious gathering and paid their respects at the shrine.

Breast cancer awareness programme was held today at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, jointly organised by Global Diagnostic & Imaging Centre, Kanispora, and the school.

Surgical Oncologist Dr. Shabnum Bashir briefed students and teachers on breast cancer, warning signs, self-awareness, early detection and timely screening.

MLA Baramulla Javed Hassan Beigh was the Chief Guest, while MLA Kreeri-Sangrama Irfan Hafiz Lone and other distinguished guests attended the programme.

Breast Cancer Awareness Programme Held at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla

*Breast Cancer Awareness: Dr Shabnum Bashir Urges Women to Prioritise Health, Early Check-Ups*

Baramulla, Sept 11: A Breast Cancer Awareness Programme was organised today at St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla, as a joint initiative of Global Diagnostic & Imaging Centre, Kanispora, in collaboration with St. Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Baramulla.

The programme aimed to create awareness about breast cancer, its warning signs and risk factors, while stressing the importance of early detection, regular health check-ups and preventive healthcare.

The occasion was graced by Hon’ble MLA Baramulla, Jinab Javed Hassan Beigh Sahib, as the Chief Guest. Hon’ble MLA Kreeri-Sangrama Constituency Jinab Irfan Hafiz Lone Sahib and other distinguished guests, including Dr. A.G. Raina, Chief Medical Officer Baramulla, Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Father Sosia Rajan Vice Principal Saint Joseph’s School Baramulla, Smt. Dalvinder Kour, Prof. Tabish Majid Wani and Prof. Shazia Ashraf were also present.

Addressing the gathering, renowned Surgical Oncologist Dr. Shabnum Bashir emphasised the need to address changing lifestyles in Jammu and Kashmir and adopt healthier habits to reduce cancer-related risks.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Shabnum Bashir said that lifestyle has become a major concern in J&K and stressed the need for people to bring positive changes to their daily routines.

She also emphasised the importance of awareness and timely medical consultation, saying that women, particularly those aged 30 years and above, should remain vigilant about their breast health and undergo appropriate medical check-ups so that any abnormality can be detected at an early stage.

Dr. Shabnum further said that breast cancer can present with different signs and symptoms, making awareness programmes important for educating people about what to look for and when to seek medical advice.

She urged women not to ignore unusual changes or symptoms and encouraged them to consult qualified medical professionals without delay.

The distinguished guests appreciated the initiative and highlighted that awareness, early detection and timely treatment can significantly improve outcomes and save lives.
Representatives of Global Diagnostic & Imaging Centre said the centre remains committed to promoting accessible diagnostic services and supporting health-awareness initiatives across North Kashmir.

The collaboration with educational institutions, they said, provides an effective platform to reach students, teachers, parents and the wider community.

The programme also focused on removing fear and stigma surrounding cancer and encouraging people to openly discuss health concerns and seek medical guidance when required.

The organisers expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, medical professionals, educationists, teachers, students and all participants for making the programme a success.

*JKNHMEA UT-Level Coordination Committee Extends Ongoing Strike for Further 72 Hours from 12 September 2026*

Srinagar, 11 September 2026:
The Jammu & Kashmir National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) UT-Level Coordination Committee has decided to extend its ongoing strike for a further 72 hours, commencing from 12 September 2026, in support of the long-pending, genuine and legitimate demands of NHM employees across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

The Association reiterates that the issues being raised by NHM employees are neither new nor unjustified. These demands have already been acknowledged/admitted by the Government at different levels, yet no concrete, time-bound and satisfactory action has been taken towards their final resolution.

For nearly 18 years, thousands of NHM employees have continued to serve the public health system under contractual arrangements, often performing duties similar to their regular counterparts while remaining exposed to prolonged uncertainty regarding their future, remuneration and retirement security.

Core Demands

The ongoing agitation primarily concerns:

- Revision and enhancement of salaries/remuneration, in line with the legitimate expectations of employees and the changing service conditions.
- Retirement benefits and social security, including a dignified and workable Golden Handshake/retirement benefit policy for NHM employees who complete their service.
- Social security and welfare measures for the NHM workforce.
- Resolution of other long-pending service-related issues through a clear, transparent and time-bound mechanism.

The Association maintains that NHM employees are an integral part of the healthcare delivery system of Jammu & Kashmir. They have worked in hospitals, health centres and field-level institutions, particularly during difficult circumstances and public-health emergencies, and have consistently contributed to keeping essential healthcare services functional.

Despite repeated representations, meetings, assurances and continuous dialogue with the concerned authorities, the employees are still awaiting a concrete policy decision and an official roadmap for resolution of their demands.

The UT-Level Coordination Committee therefore considers it necessary to continue the democratic and peaceful agitation until the Government initiates a meaningful process leading towards a definite and time-bound resolution.

Appeal to NHM Employees

The JKNHMEA UT-Level Coordination Committee appeals to all categories of NHM employees across Jammu & Kashmir to remain united, disciplined and peaceful during the extended 72-hour strike and to participate in the programme with full solidarity.

The Association also makes it clear that the agitation is not against the public or the healthcare system. It is a collective struggle for justice, dignity, job security and a sustainable future for thousands of employees who have served the health sector for years.

The Committee remains committed to dialogue and urges the Government to take the matter seriously and convene a high-level meeting with the representatives of NHM employees at the earliest, so that the present situation can be brought to a meaningful conclusion through a concrete decision rather than further assurances.

JKNHMEA appeals to the Government to convert the already acknowledged concerns into actual policy action and provide a clear, time-bound resolution to the long-pending demands of NHM employees.

NHM Employees Continue 72-Hour Strike at GMC Baramulla

Baramulla, September 11: National Health Mission (NHM) employees at GMC Baramulla continued their 72-hour strike for the third consecutive day on Friday, pressing for their long-pending demands.

The protesting employees said their genuine demands have remained unresolved for the past six years and appealed to the government, particularly Health Minister Sakina Itoo, to intervene and address their issues at the earliest.

Their key demands include pay hike and salary revision, retirement benefits, and a job security policy.

The employees urged the government to take immediate steps to resolve their concerns and provide relief to the NHM workforce serving across the health sector.
