The simple desire to share the truth can have a profound and life-changing effect. Having completed their post-graduation in Mass Communication in 2009, two young men from Baramulla, Noor Ul Haq and Muneeb Ul Haq, had found attractive career options in India but as enthusiastic youngsters committed to high journalistic standards, they could not fail to notice that their native place lacked strong and objective reportage. While other parts of Kashmir were served well by local newspapers, the same could not be said about North Kashmir. The two often discussed this lacuna and in 2014, decided to take upon themselves the task of filling it. This desire essentially became a harbinger of an idea called The Varmul Post.

Sopore Police Book Three Notorious Drug Peddlers Under PIT NDPS Act

Sopore, July 17, 2025:
As part of its intensified crackdown on narcotics offenders, Sopore Police have booked three habitual drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS Act), following their continued involvement in drug trafficking despite repeated arrests and preventive measures.

The individuals booked are:
1. Muneeb Jabar Dar alias Shoga, son of Abdul Jabar Dar, resident of Muqam Shaheed Mir Sopore — currently lodged at District Jail Udhampur.
2. Imtiyaz Ahmad Khandwaw, son of Ghulam Hassan Khandwaw, resident of Baghi Rehmat Sopore — currently lodged at Central Jail Kot Bhalwal.
3. Ishrat Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Kabir, resident of Adipora Sopore — currently lodged at District Jail Kathua.

All three have a history of involvement in multiple NDPS cases and continued to engage in narcotic-related activities, posing a persistent threat to the safety and well-being of the society.

After sustained surveillance and compilation of a detailed dossier, the competent authority issued formal detention orders under the PIT NDPS Act, following thorough legal scrutiny.

Sopore Police reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance against drug trafficking and remains resolute in its efforts to dismantle the narcotics network operating in the region.

The general public is urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with Police in the collective fight to build a drug-free Sopore.
