Yasir Naik, PDP Youth Leader, Raises Concerns Over Infrastructure, Accountability and Patient Care at Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla

Baramulla: PDP Youth Leader Yasir Naik has expressed serious concern over the prevailing conditions at Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla, urging the administration and Health Department to prioritize patient welfare, accountability, and quality healthcare delivery.

Naik stated that despite being one of the most important healthcare institutions in North Kashmir, several issues continue to affect patients and attendants on a daily basis. He pointed to the poor condition of the public parking area, marked by deep potholes and inadequate maintenance, which causes inconvenience and safety concerns for visitors and emergency movement.

He also questioned the location of the OPD ticket counter outside the main hospital building, saying that elderly patients, women, persons with disabilities, and critically ill individuals are forced to move unnecessarily through the hospital premises to access basic services.

Raising concerns about labour welfare, Naik called for a review of the conditions of sanitation workers and stressed that all workers engaged through contractors must be paid in accordance with the Minimum Wages Act and other applicable labour laws.

He further emphasized that all tenders should be floated strictly according to actual institutional needs, statutory requirements, workforce obligations, and quality service standards. Awarding contracts merely on the basis of the lowest bid, without adequately considering service quality, manpower requirements, and legal obligations, can ultimately compromise public services and patient welfare, he said.

Yasir Naik expressed concern over what he described as a lack of accountability within the system. He said that public complaints regarding delays, patient assistance, infrastructure deficiencies, overcrowding, sanitation concerns, and administrative shortcomings deserve serious attention and timely redressal.

"The primary objective of a hospital is to provide the best possible healthcare to patients. Administrative focus must remain on strengthening patient care, emergency response systems, staff support, cleanliness, accessibility, and healthcare outcomes rather than giving disproportionate attention to cosmetic works and beautification projects while core issues remain unresolved," he said.

He added that doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers often work under immense pressure and deserve adequate support, infrastructure, equipment, and administrative backing to deliver quality healthcare services.

Yasir Naik urged the Government, GMC Baramulla administration, and the Health Department to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the hospital's infrastructure, patient-care mechanisms, accountability systems, labour welfare practices, and tendering procedures. He called for transparent reforms aimed at ensuring that every decision taken by the institution ultimately serves the interests of patients and improves healthcare delivery for the people of North Kashmir.

"The people deserve a healthcare system where patient care is the first priority, accountability is ensured, and public trust is strengthened through action rather than promises," he said.

Khalid Rafeeq Bhat Elected Unopposed Chairman of JKReTTF

Srinagar, June 7: Khalid Rafeeq Bhat has been elected unopposed as Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum (JKReTTF) JKUT after being the sole candidate to file nomination papers for the post, the Election Commission of the organization announced on Sunday.

According to an official statement issued by the Election Commission, the election process was completed in accordance with the notified schedule and procedures. The commission stated that the process was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.
The Election Commission had issued the election notification on May 22, 2026, inviting nominations for the post of Chairman. As per the election schedule, June 2 was fixed as the last date for filing nomination papers. During the nomination period, only one nomination was received from Khalid Rafeeq Bhat.

Following the submission of nomination papers, the Election Commission carried out scrutiny and verification of the documents submitted by the candidate. After examination of the records, the commission found Bhat eligible to contest for the post in accordance with the provisions governing the election process.

Since only one valid nomination was received and no other candidate entered the contest, polling was not required. Consequently, Bhat was declared elected unopposed as Chairman of JKReTTF JKUT.

The Election Commission congratulated the newly elected chairman and thanked members of the organization for their cooperation during the election process. It said the smooth completion of the process reflected the participation and support of the forum’s members.

The commission further informed that the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected chairman is scheduled to be held in Srinagar on June 21, 2026. Following the ceremony, Bhat will formally assume office as Chairman of the organization.

In its statement, the Election Commission noted that the filing of a single nomination for the post reflected the support enjoyed by Bhat among members of the forum across Jammu and Kashmir. It also referred to his long association with the teaching community and his involvement in organizational affairs over the years.

Members from different districts have expressed confidence in the newly elected chairman’s ability to lead the forum and address issues concerning teachers, according to the statement.

The notification was issued by Chief Election Commissioner Altaf Hussain Bhat on behalf of the Election Commission of JKReTTF JKUT from Srinagar
