The Lunchbox Surprise

Ravi was a 10-year-old boy who didn’t like school much. He found it hard to make friends, and most days, he sat alone during lunch, quietly eating the food his mother packed for him.

One gloomy Monday, he opened his lunchbox and saw something unexpected — a small yellow sticky note with a hand-drawn smiley face and the words:
“Smile big today! You’re doing great.”

He smiled, something he hadn’t done at school in weeks.

The next day, there was another note:
“Even superheroes have bad days. But they never give up 😊”

And the next:
“Kindness is your superpower. Use it today!”

His classmates noticed his smile. One of them asked what he was reading, and soon, they were waiting to see what message Ravi would get each day. Slowly, he made friends. He laughed more. He participated in class. His world began to feel less lonely.

Months later, Ravi asked his mother, “Why do you draw a smiley for me every day?”

She replied, “Because even one smiley can carry a little bit of love, hope, and courage.”

And just like that, Ravi started leaving his own smiley notes — in library books, on his friends' desks, and even for the school janitor.

Because he had learned one beautiful truth:

As we celebrate the bravery, dedication, and indomitable spirit of our air warriors, I can't help but reflect on those nostalgic days when I used to attend the air shows with wide-eyed excitement. The roar of the jets, the precision of the aerobatics, and the unwavering pride in watching the IAF showcase its might... those memories are etched in my heart forever.

Being an Ex-AF Brat, I grew up surrounded by the values of discipline, courage, and patriotism that the Air Force embodies. Today, I salute all the brave airmen and women who stand guard, protecting our skies with unwavering commitment.

The tragic loss of a young doctor in Kolkata is a grim reminder that freedom is not yet a reality for many.
