Earthquake of 5.9 Magnitude Strikes Myanmar, Strong Tremors Felt in Kolkata and Bangladesh
A powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar on Tuesday evening, with tremors felt across several parts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, and also in Bangladesh. The tremors were strong enough to cause panic in many areas, forcing people to rush out of their homes and buildings for safety.
According to available information, the epicenter of the earthquake was near Akyab (Sittwe) in Myanmar, located about 70 miles east of the city. In Kolkata, residents reported feeling the ground shake around 6:07 pm, creating a brief atmosphere of panic.
So far, there have been no immediate reports of loss of life or property damage.
