Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty died this evening while undergoing treatment at Medant Hospital in Gurugram, in the southwest of New Delhi, at the age of 66 years. Mohanty’s nephew confirmed about his death at the hospital.

Beginning his career from Odia film ‘Abhimaan’ in 1977 Uttam Mohanty has worked in more than 150 films including ‘Nijhum Ratira Sathi’ (1979), ‘Phula Chandana’ (1982), ‘Jhiati Sita Pari’ (1983) and Danda Balunga (1984). He has also acted in a few TV serials including ‘Sara Akasha’. This part, Uttam Mohanty also has shown his acting skills in 30 Bengali films and a Hindi film, ‘Naya Zaher’.

Mohanty has got the most prestigious Jayadeb Puraskar in 1999, besides Odisha Living Legend Award 2012 and Odisha State Film award for several times as Best Actor for his work and contribution to the film industry.

Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo was born on 17 December 1870 into a royal family in the princely state of Mayurbhanj. He became the ruler on 15th August 1892 and dedicated himself to the overall development of the state. He implemented various beneficial measures for the welfare of the people and sought the guidance of Pundit Utkalmani Gopabandhu.

Under his leadership, Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo established a state council for administration and introduced reforms in language, health, and administration. He initiated the scientific operation of iron mines, leasing the Gorumahsini mines to the Tatas. In 1903, he oversaw the construction of a narrow gauge railway line from Rupsa to Baripada, known as the Mayurbhanj State Railway. Additionally, he supervised the construction of 474 miles of roads connecting all divisional towns with Baripada and formed the Baripada Municipality in 1905. He founded an English High School, a government Press, a hospital, and a l***r asylum in Baripada.

Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo was a devoted supporter of Odia art and culture, showcasing the famous Chhau dance of Odisha in Calcutta in 1912. He passed away on 22 February 1912 in Mayurbhanj. The Shri Ramachandra Bhanj Medical College in Cuttack was named in his honor in 1951, recognizing his contributions and donation towards the institution during his lifetime.

📍Location Overview
Sitakund, a pristine waterfall pool, is located within the Simlipal National Park of Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, approximately 20 km from Baripada, the district headquarters.
Take the Lulung route and take your left from Pithabata Gate (Entry Gate to Similipal National Park). Its just 2Km. away from there.
🔸History:
It is said that Goddess Sita rested here for a few days during her exile, so the place is named Sitakand after her. There is a tank whose water comes from the top of the hill and accumulates in this tank where tourists can enjoy bathing. Lord Hanuman is worshipped in a small cave near the waterfall. Sitakund is named after Sita from the epic Ramayana, and the pool here is said to be where she bathed.

The most comfortable period to visit Sitakund is from October to March,especially the winter. when the weather is pleasant, enhancing the experience of trekking, sightseeing, and exploring the forest trails.
