A beautiful Christmas celebration was witnessed at the famous Kochi Tree in Fort Kochi, Kerala, where thousands of people gathered to celebrate the festival under one of India’s most iconic natural Christmas trees.

The giant rain tree at Veli Ground was transformed into a glowing symbol of Christmas, decorated with thousands of lights, stars, bells, and festive ornaments.

Locals and visitors came together to enjoy the magical atmosphere, clicking photos, sharing smiles, and celebrating the spirit of joy and togetherness.

What makes the Kochi Tree special is that it is a living tree, decorated every year through community effort, turning it into what many call India’s biggest natural Christmas tree.

The celebration reflects harmony, tradition, and the true festive spirit of Christmas in Kerala.

A heartbreaking incident occurred in Assam in the early hours of December 20, 2025, where seven wild Asiatic elephants including three adults and four calves were k*lled after being h*t by a high speed passenger train.

The incident took place around 2:17 AM in the Jamunamukh Kampur railway section under Lumding Division in Hojai district, when the Sairang New Delhi Rajdhani Express struck a herd of elephants crossing the tracks. Despite the loco pilot applying emergency brakes, the train could not stop in time.

Forest officials confirmed that seven elephants d*ed on the spot, while one injured calf with serious injuries was rescued and shifted to a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Bokakhat for treatment.

The collision caused the locomotive and five coaches to derail, though no passengers were h*rmed, preventing an even bigger tragedy. Several trains were cancelled or diverted as restoration work was carried out.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed deep sorrow and ordered a detailed enquiry, stressing the urgent need for stronger wildlife protection measures near railway tracks.

This tragic incident once again highlights the growing human wildlife conflict in Assam and the urgent need to protect endangered animals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new integrated terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati on December 20, 2025, marking a major milestone for Assam and the entire Northeast.
The new terminal is inspired by the theme Bamboo Orchids, reflecting Assam’s rich biodiversity and culture. Its design includes elements inspired by bamboo, orchids, Kaziranga, the one-horned rhino, japi, and gamocha, making it India’s first nature-themed airport terminal.
Spread across a large area, the terminal is able to handle over 13 million passengers every year and is equipped with modern facilities like DigiYatra gates, advanced security scanners, automated baggage handling systems, and improved cargo services to support tea and agricultural exports.
During the event, the Prime Minister also unveiled an 80-foot statue of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi and addressed a massive public gathering. The inauguration was part of PM Modi’s two-day visit to Assam, during which several major development projects were launched.
With this new terminal, Guwahati has emerged as the main aviation hub of Northeast India, strengthening tourism, trade, and international connectivity.
